Diggin' Me Down Lyrics

You're saving the saved,
Men and women enslaved,
Propagating the messiah conception
The rich getting richer,
Paint you into the picture,
Give the poor immaculate deception

Where are you Father?
Why don't you save us?
The fallen are dying alone
How can you shut off their cries?
Ignore a new genocide?
So come on, Jesus,
We're all here waiting just for you

How long must we keep on waiting?
The faithful and blind are keepin' me, keepin' me down
How long? Cause my faith is breaking,
The pure and divine are diggin' me, diggin' me down

Do you live in the light
Or in the dead of the night?
Sanctimonious promises broken
Hypocritical sin,
Dying slowly within,
Is the sacred truth forever unspoken?

Life ever after,
Bohemian rapture,
Beware the dark side of the son.
You're just a self-made messiah,
Selling brimstone and fire
So come on, Jesus,
Don't keep us waiting just for you

How long must we keep on waiting?
The faithful and blind are bringin' me, bringin' me down
How long? Cause my faith is breaking,
The pure and divine are diggin' me, diggin' me down

How will I know you, Mr. Jesus Christ?
Have you already been here once or twice?
The son of man are obsolete facade,
How will I know that you're the son of God?
Yeah

The narrator is expressing frustration with christians and christian dogma. And the lyric is "beware the dark side of the son" not "sun."

Over all I believe that this song is about the world going into chaos in Ozzy's eyes.

This particular verse interests me... "Life ever after Bohemian Rapture Beware the dark side of the Sun You're just a self-made messiah Selling Brimstone and Fire So come on, Jesus, We're all here waiting just for you."

I think that this is talking about the Battle of Armageddon which is supposed to happen if you have read the Book of Revelation.

"You're just a self-made messiah selling Brimstone and Fire" - To me this is talking about Satan and Hell on Earth

I think that Ozzy is trying to say that since everyone is saying we are in a period of Hell on Earth then Jesus should come soon. Yet Jesus has said that 'No Man knows the hour for which I return."

I love the Oz but let's not sugar-coat it. This song is a mocking of Christ. Everyone is entitled to their own opion, though. In the early days, Black Sabbath quite often had its message correct - They told people to beware of Satan's plans to deceive and lure them to Hell. There are several songs that have this theme in the first 8 studio albums with Ozzy. Heck, the band's theme song "Black Sabbath" is a testament to this. Most notably, the fantastic song "After Forever" (from Master Of Reality) with the lyrics supplied by Geezer Butler (Sabbath's lyric-writer in the Ozzy days) are pro-Christ, pro-God. Check for yourself. The Sabs also mixed thier message in this timeframe too..."I don't want no preacher telling me about the God in the sky."- (Under The Sun - Vol.4). In "Diggin' Me Down" Ozzy is basically talking down to "Mister Jesus", dripping with sarcasm because Jesus has not returned yet. However, this is actually biblical prophecy fulfilling itself, once again. It states in the bible in 2 Peter 3:3 "...knowing this first of all that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation." " Like I said, I love Ozzy, Bill, Geezer and Tony. Let's face it, Tony Iommi wrote some of the best heavy metal guitar music the world will ever know. If the bible proves itself out, Ozzy will one day have no problem determining if Jesus is the Son of God or not (as he questions in this song). I just hope Ozzy makes up his mind BEFORE he passes away.

I think it's a little more complicated that some of the previous comments suggest. I think this song is about how people who claim to be pure and godly have, in many cases, become the opposite of that. They've become the oppressors and the sinners, refusing to see their own sin while condemning others. Ozzy is calling out a challenge, saying that if Jesus is real and plans to return, he might want to go about making it happen because his followers are turning his religion into a mockery.
