I love the Oz but let's not sugar-coat it. This song is a mocking of Christ. Everyone is entitled to their own opion, though. In the early days, Black Sabbath quite often had its message correct - They told people to beware of Satan's plans to deceive and lure them to Hell. There are several songs that have this theme in the first 8 studio albums with Ozzy. Heck, the band's theme song "Black Sabbath" is a testament to this. Most notably, the fantastic song "After Forever" (from Master Of Reality) with the lyrics supplied by Geezer Butler (Sabbath's lyric-writer in the Ozzy days) are pro-Christ, pro-God. Check for yourself. The Sabs also mixed thier message in this timeframe too..."I don't want no preacher telling me about the God in the sky."- (Under The Sun - Vol.4). In "Diggin' Me Down" Ozzy is basically talking down to "Mister Jesus", dripping with sarcasm because Jesus has not returned yet. However, this is actually biblical prophecy fulfilling itself, once again. It states in the bible in 2 Peter 3:3 "...knowing this first of all that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation." " Like I said, I love Ozzy, Bill, Geezer and Tony. Let's face it, Tony Iommi wrote some of the best heavy metal guitar music the world will ever know. If the bible proves itself out, Ozzy will one day have no problem determining if Jesus is the Son of God or not (as he questions in this song). I just hope Ozzy makes up his mind BEFORE he passes away.
