Home Is for the Heartless (feat. Brett Gurewitz) Lyrics

If home is where the heart is
Why do I feel so fucking heartless?

The crumbling skyline
Cuts a vicious horizon
Sinking its teeth into the cold September sky
Decaying towers of steel
Reach with crooked spires for the heavens
Like bones of the hollow chest of this town
Torn wide for the scavengers

Woah, woah
Mother Mercy, take my hand
Woah, woah
Follow me through this forsaken land

Woah, woah
Father Time, return what's mine
The innocence you stole from these eyes
'Cause I just feel, I just feel numb

For the vision burning before me
Is one of former glory
An icon cast in the light of freer times
Now writhes in a bed of lies

Hope doesn't live
Hope doesn't live here
Love doesn't live
Love doesn't live here anymore
Anymore
Anymore

Woah, woah
Mother Mercy, take my hand
Woah, woah
Follow me through this forsaken land

Woah, woah
Father Time, return what's mine
The innocence you stole from these eyes
'Cause I just feel, I just feel numb

'Cause I just feel numb
I just feel numb
I just feel numb

Woah, woah
Woah, woah

Woah, woah
Mother Mercy, take my hand
Woah, woah
Follow me through this forsaken land

Woah, woah
Father Time, return what's mine
The innocence you stole from these eyes
'Cause I just feel, I just feel numb
'Cause I just feel, I just feel numb
'Cause I just feel, I just feel

Did any of you guys notice that many of the lyrics in this ablum that end a song, begin the next? For Karma it is,"Shipwrecked bones carry my seasick heart home". Where as Home Is For The Heartless starts with,"IF home is where the heart is, the why do I feel so fucking Heartless?". The same goes for Hollow where he states the he is "Seeking the guidance gained from silence" and Leviathan I starts by saying that "But there is no silence". Just one of the many reasons I love this album.

I believe this song is basically saying that the town he grew up in Bryon Bay, is no longer the town he knew and loved when he was growing up. This is not fact, just what I think.

I live an hour away from that town. I was told it used to be such a relaxed town, but now is slowly becoming over run with tourist, which has destroyed Byron. This has made locals move out of town and move else were. ^this is true thought^

Yep, it's a "concept album" in a sense - it's a story told from beginning to end in a poetic form. This is one is a bit more obvious than most concept albums because of the relation the lyrics have to the song that comes before and/or after.

He's not who he used to be. The city has stolen anything from him that he once was. "Decaying towers of steel reach with crooked spires for the heavens, like bones of the hollow chest of this town, torn wide for the scavengers." - Describing the city's appearance.

One of the best songs on Deep Blue, up there with Unrest, Sleepwalker and Leviathan...actually come to think of it, they're all so great! Good job on the new album boys, 'tis EPIC.

Possibly one of the best songs from the new album. Awesome job on the album boys, keep the good stuff comin. Bit of a different style from their older songs but I think its still absolutely incredible. Bad Religion is also featured in this song.

A testament to how incredible this band is, I still listen to this album almost DAILY two years later! Every single song is incredible.
