Shoot It Out Lyrics
Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now
Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now
Verse 1:
Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now
Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now
Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it a little more
You can be rest assured
You give them all you got and you give them a little more
You never even know what for
They feed and they suck until you unconscious
Its never enough until they kill your subconscious
PreChorus:
I'm ready to die
Chorus:
Will you kill what's left of me to stop the bleeding
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)
Suffocate integrity til I'm not breathing
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)
Verse 2:
Feed them, Fucking starve them, keep begging a little more
Feed them, Fucking starve them, keep begging a little more
I'm not gonna be your whore
Load it, cock it, pull it, refuse to be ignored
I'm not gonna fight you war
All the distractions kill the compassion
Suddenly, fame has lost it's attraction
PreChorus:
I'm ready to die
Chorus:
Will you kill what's left of me to stop the bleeding
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)
(Shoot it, Shoot it out cause they want it, want it now, now)

Interviewer: Give us some insight into the record Feeding the Wolves and the meaning behind its title.
Brian: The title comes from a lyric in the song "Shoot it Out." That song is about how the music industry is totally based on hit songs, trends, and singles nowadays and a major lack of artist development. Record companies just want bands to shoot out singles, hence the title, "Shoot it Out." Bands like us become reliant on the industry for our livelihood. When all of a sudden your musical hobby becomes your means of paying your mortgage payment and feeding your children, you unfortunately get caught up in the machine and have to face compromise and sacrifice. Feeding the Wolves is a metaphor for musicians having to feed the music industry machine. In order to gain success in this industry, everyone must get their back scratched a little. It’s an unfortunate truth.
I wonder if by "feeding the wolves" the band is referring to the Native American legend, of the grandfather who tells his son about two wolves that are battling within the heart of every man (I checked online and you can goggle the story). The annotated version is basically one wolf contains all the bad qualities within us, and the other all the good. "The one who wins", the grandfather tells his grandson, "is the one you decide to feed." This song I believe is about how as we grow older, and through much of our lives society slowly kills the optimist, the idealist, the dreamer in most people and forces, in essence forces people to feed the wolf that feeds of the negative energy in us. When for example he says “suffocate integrity till I’m not breathing” probably points to the fact that we often feel that something is missing, and upon closer inspection it is sometimes realized that it the part of us we let people, and society suffocate. In the end we “never even know what for.” For some people however, they succumb so much to this pressure that by constant repetition the cynic becomes the guiding force from the shadows of the “subconscious”.
Phrase: "Feed them, fucking starve them, keep begging a little more I'm not gonna be your whore Load it, cock it, pull it, refuse to be ignored I'm not gonna fight you war All the distractions kill the compassion Suddenly, fame has lost its attraction" Describes the dilemma that, in order to get the things in life that society holds in esteem, we are often expected to embrace cynicism and "suffocate integrity." The mechanisms by which we are enticed by the world are prestige, fame, success, sex, etc. and we are told that if we do what they want then we will get these things and be the envy of others. This phrase Is the singer’s rebellion to what is demanded of us by society. When he sees all that he will be giving up, “fame has lost its attraction,” to succumb would be to become their “whore.”
I think your right

Great, great interpretation of the song. I think you hit the nail right on the head there.

Verse 1: You never even know what for -> And never even know what for They feed and they suck until you unconscious -> They feed and they suck until your unconscious
Verse 2: Feed them, Fucking starve them, keep begging a little more X2 -> Feed them, Fucking starve them, keep begging a little more X3
I'm not gonna fight you war -> I'm not gonna fight your war
and interpenetration: Obviously its its about someone asking to much of him, they use weapons to obtain what they want.. He tells they he wont fight for them anymore because he doesnt get anything out of it.
I am obsessed with this song! It's amazing.
I think it's about how he gives everything and leaves it all on the stage but people still aren't satisfied and want more.
I don't know if it's intentional but the chanting of Shoot it shoot it out cause the want it want it now now is kind of like an onomatopoeia.. I can just imagine a little kid saying I want it now Now NOW NOW NOW!!!
It'll probably be their biggest hit because it's incredibly catchy. Which means ol Jesse will have to sing his song about not feeling like he is ever enough for the rest of his career :-/
It's all about the struggle between good and evil. And yes, I do believe this is based on or was inspired by the Native American myth. Basically, he can either keep giving people what they want. But why should he when they're all terrible? He wonders why he should sin and do bad things just to make people happy. And the people beg and beg and draw him... Where's the meaning of being a rich and famous musician, when the people don't actually listen to the meaning behind the lyrics? He wants to do what the people want, and yet he doesn't, and that's where the struggles lie--he can't resist feeding the bad wolf but he has to stay strong and do what he ultimately believes is right, feeding the good wolf.
It's funny actually. In my personal opinion, this song is more violent and straightforward than some of his older music. Is he starting to just give people what they want?

totally agree fluffyshem, this song does seem to have straightforward lyrics and him just giving people what they want (simple lyrics) speaks to the theme of the song. This is your typical media pushed single to promote an album, no doubt the record company made him write a simpler song that sells well so they make more money. But he is trying to tell us his dismay in these lyrics, its genius. The only mystery in these lyrics is who is he "feeding" and why. So I think hes talking about the record company, who is destroying something he loves (making music) by...

Shoot it shoot it out cus they want it now (give them the next song quick) Suddenly fame has lost its attraction (he would rather write his music than get caught up in fame) Feeding the wolves, dont you know better? (Despite his feelings, he is doing it anyway, giving them what they want)
Brilliant song gotta give props to Jesse

I agree. When I first heard the album I was a little disappointed(still am in all honesty) but that was before I delved into the meaning of this song and Fix me. I think the record label forced them to make an album full of radio friendly hits which they did but while doing so they asked themselves "why can't we piss them off while doing so?" Very, very clever. The fact that they left the record label to form their own independent label after this record just goes further to raise my suspicions. I hope they go back to...

I hope they go back to writing subtle and beautiful songs in their next album because to be honest they don't have the excuse of being forced to do otherwise any more. Still one of my favourite bands.
this song is epic!!!! i love the way the song can mean anything its really introspective

The song is about losing yourself to please others but they are never satisfied or pleased with you so you keep on losing yourself a little more. That is what I take it to mean but I do know there is a bit of a backstory with the record about the band and the record label.
I read somewhere that they said in an interview this song is about record labels
