This is your typical media pushed single to promote an album, no doubt the record company made him write a simpler song that sells well so they make more money.
But he is trying to tell us his dismay at this in these lyrics, its genius.
The only mystery in these lyrics is who is he "feeding" and why. So I think hes talking about the record company, who is destroying something he loves (making music) by making it more about the money.

I agree. When I first heard the album I was a little disappointed(still am in all honesty) but that was before I delved into the meaning of this song and Fix me. I think the record label forced them to make an album full of radio friendly hits which they did but while doing so they asked themselves "why can't we piss them off while doing so?" Very, very clever. The fact that they left the record label to form their own independent label after this record just goes further to raise my suspicions. I hope they go back to...
