Out My Mind, Just In Time Lyrics
I'm a recovering undercover over-lover
Recovering from a love I can't get over,
Recovering undercover over-lover
And now my common law lover thinks he wants another
And I'd lie for you
I'd cry for you
I'd pop for you
I'd break for you
And hate for you
And I'll hate you too
If you want me too
Ah, ooh ooh
I'd pray for you
I'd crochet for you
Make it from scratch for you
Leave out the latch for you
Go to the stove for you
Do it some more for you
Do what you want me to
Yes I'm a fool for you
I'm a recovering undercover over-lover
Recovering from a love I can't get over,
Recovering undercover over-lover
And now my common law lover thinks he wants another
And I'd lie for you
I'd cry for you
I'd pop for you
I'd break for you
And hate for you
And I'll hate you too
If you want me too
I gotta do my love for you
Chopped and screwed for you
Pay the rent for you
It's true
It's true
Poor Badu
Thought I was through with you
Guess I'm a fool for you
Could this be
Love from high
New frontier
Whose this guy
Your so wise
I'm so good
Like summertime
You'd had it all
Build a wall
Ten feet tall.
Now I laugh at it all
Out of my mind
Just in time
Never knew,
I was blind
What it through
I can't see there
Mama said, Let that be
Easily
Said and done
I can't feel
I am numb
Bitter dream
Fruit so raw
Winter cold
Let me out
I know you
Do you hear me
Out of my mind
Just in time
Oh oh, oh, I
Oh, oh, I
Oh, oh, I,
Oh, oh, I,
Yeah.
Man, fuck this shit
fuck this shit
I'm so addicted
I can't quit
Oh, oh
I'm tired of this
Yeah
It's time for me to make some steps
Easy to blame somebody else
Not this time
Not this time
Not this time
No
Not this time
Not this time
Not this time
Not this
No
Not this time,
Not this time
No
Not this time
Not this time
Not this
No
20 feet out of ashes I can rise
Just like birds and children
I can fly
And I'll take my phoenix flight
And you can't take my
But you can try
Not this time,
Not this time
Not this time
Not this

Not this time
Not this time
Not this time
Not this time
Hey
On and on
I seem to go
Round and round I seem to go
Always had the antidote
Looking for the holy ghost
Found him in the missing note
Sinking in the holy boat
Round and round
I seem to go
Round and round,
Oh, oh, I,
Oh, oh, I,
Oh, oh, I,
Yeah,
Guess it's time to grab a coat
Evolution time to grow
Ego trying to block the door
Might not have no where to go
Finally got a leading role

this song is so beautiful to me. first time i heard it i immediately took in the feeling of the songs from how it started to the second part, i think it's about how being in a relationship changes you and would make you do anything for that person, and towards the end it's a whole new relationship, but treating it in a whole new way than the last. she's amazinggg.
the third part of the song is speaking about spiritual liberation....i'm not going to explain it in detail. its something we all will do, someday ;) enjoy the ride....
Erykah has the raw way of saying exactly what she feels. In the first part of the song she's saying that she would basically do anything for the lover she once had because she says, "I'm a fool for you." These are the things she once did for someone she still truly loves, who once loved her. The song's about her falling out of love, and trying to start anew. Even though she's trying to start anew, just as the second part of the song suggests, she pities herself. The second part starts out with her anger- saying he had it all, but he "built a wall 10 feet tall." She's angry, laughing at it all, and she's going a bit crazy over the loss of someone to whom she worked so hard to show love and honor. Even though she admits being addicted to this person, she realizes her own neuroticism, and realizes she must really walk on her own two feet, alone. The song shows so many transitions of thought not just lyrically, but also musically. Erykah's song almost sounds as thought she's just talking to herself, trying to warn herself she needs to be strong. This is, by far, my favorite Badu song.
The first part of the song represents her in her present state reflecting and admitting she a fool for this person! The second represent when she first started feeling for him and realizing she was blind to what he was doing. When she says "built up wall ten feet tall" this is the wall she had to tear down to let him in. I always read lyric sheets that says "leave out the latch for you"! It makes more sense to say "leave off the latch for you"! The last part to me represents what I think a lot of...

The last part to me represents what I think a lot of us do when we are desperate to get over someone... go to church, get saved, anything to get that person off of our minds... anything to feel normal again... and go crazy in the process. Powerful song!!!!
In this song it transitions from one phase to the next, but it's all equidistantly the same -- relapsing. She's sad and realizing her feasibility to him and almost blaming herself for her lover not wanting her. "And now my common law lover thinks he wants another" (take note of the tone of the music; low).
The third verse I think she's found herself or found someone else (take note of the up tempo the beat now). She's realize that she's hurt, but she must move on. The fourth is just her washing her hands from all the emotional turmoil associated with her last relationship. She won't take the blame anymore. She has now found herself and is focus on her spiritual relationship with herself and the world.
Beautiful song and focus. One of my favorites
