Love-Hate-Sex-Pain

Hmm, this song sounds a lot to me like an old Alice in Chains song, "Love Hate Love". Even during the guitar solo the note progression is very similar to the solo in the AIC song.

Now I know Sully is an AIC fan but come on, can't he come up with some new material? All the latest Godsmack songs, IMHO, sound almost painfully alike.

BTW this constructive criticism is coming from someone who very much likes Godsmack & Sully Erna. I even went to one of their concerts, which was badass. But we all get stuck in ruts sometimes... as a fellow songwriter I can relate.

It's about a relationship through the eyes of a man and how that a very good percentage of relationships and up with those four elements(Love-Hate-Sex-Pain). It also says that we can't give up because the right woman is out there somewhere emotions control how far men look for this woman. Godd song!

LOL...Disturbed and 666 really go together. Disturbed really is scary music. Anyhow. I think this song is about the struggles of love, sex and relationships. But it does sound kinda like AIC's song. This might be the end of Godsmack. I have moved onto heavier music such as Amon Amarth and Opeth. But Godsmack is a good rock band. or were?

Um you guys are all stupid! Love-Hate-Sex-Pain is about the confusion that it causes us through our daily lives.

in life you love, but sometimes you don't love properly. some people just don't know how. that's what I think is at the core of this song. knowing that there is something wrong with the way you connect to a person you could very well love, or at least mistakenly love. how easy it is to confuse all four of these emotions/actions for something you desperately want for yourself. it's what's expected. courtship, commitment, marriage, kids, family, belonging, etc. and when it doesn't happen that way (break down of the relationship with his daughter's mother through his own error, for example) it makes you question what you hold dear about love and the experiences you've gathered from them. ('and I wonder as I tear away my skin, it's taken me so long to stitch these wounds from where I've been').

when one's been hurt so often and built up against the idea of being vulnerable, it's hard to break it all down into something that you can offer another for very long, try as hard as you might. as badly as you might want it. you end up falling back into old patterns because it's what you know ('I surely slip away, through love, hate, sex and pain')

it's really a very sad song to me; Sully's basically admitting that maybe he's just not meant to have the 'dream' family he craves so deeply. ('it's hard to say that I'll be complete before I die'). that deep down he really doesn't trust what he thinks or feels what love is ('love-hate-sex-pain, its underestimated lies'). I hope he finds something real, though.. sniffsniff

The lyrics are forced... hard. "Walk the silent emptiness?" Whoa, is that a second-person command? Chill out hard ass, I'm not ready to walk on something that DOESN'T FUCKING MAKE SENSE. "In this life, I'm me." ... Holy shit. I was under the impression that you were someone else entirely. Somehow, I think quadriplegic orangutans could muster up a more meaningful slab of shit. "Love-Hate-Sex-Pain" does not have the ability to "underestimate life," as if that made any sense anyways. How can you underestimate life? But hey, "Love-Hate-Sex-Pain complicates me... sometimes...?" That's a pretty retarded piece of evidence that this band should play in traffic for the next few years. What exactly IS he wondering as he "tears away his skin?" (Bad ass). Because it never specifies. Even his own mother hates his music enough to try to murder him. *When I say "him," I'm referring to Saving Abel, Buckcherry, Three Days Grace, Theory Of A Deadman, Nickelback, Justin Beiber, The NEW Avenged Sevenfold, and, of course, whatever invalid wrote this pile of shit.
