Scared to Death Lyrics

In the biblical sense and sensibility
let me know you
I'll kiss that smile off your face
just say when

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love

All these pick-up lines from Hell
icebreakers infernal
From a heart so black and blue
only for you
(just say when again)

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love
with you

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love

I'm not afraid to admit I adore you
any more than I was before, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
to fall in love
with you

with you

with you

Scared to death

I'm scared to death

And you're sweet like poison

The meaning is pretty obvious, the narrator is trying to approach the relationship as merely sexual (In the biblical sense and sensibility, let me know you) out of the fear that of revealing his true self and getting hurt. So he's trying to be careful this time around because he's been hurt in the past (From a heart so black and blue.) However by the end, he seems he's given up his defenses and surrendered to her (And you're sweet like poison.) At least, that's my view on the whole thing.

I thought maybe it could be about drugs and/or alcohol..?
