Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Again the burden of losing rest
Upon my shoulders
And its weight seems unbearable
Your tomb is where your heart is,
I should have told her
But within me a secret so terrible
To cry is to know that you're alive
But my river of tears has run dry
I never wanted to fool you, no
But a cold heart is a dead heart
And it feels like I've been buried alive by love
If I should die before I wake
Pray no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
If I should die before I wake
Pray no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
The kiss of vanity you blessed me with a spiritual murder
Fed the gods of war insatiable
Your home is where the dark is,
I should have told her
Embrace the fire indestructible
To die is to know that you're alive
And my river of blood won't run dry
I never wanted to lose you, no
But a cold heart is a dead heart
And it feels like I've been buried alive by love
If I should die before I wake
Bring no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
If I should die before I wake
Pray no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
Oh, they say to cry is to know that you're alive
And my river of tears has run dry
I never wanted to fool you, no
But a cold heart is a dead heart
And a desert soul is gone
A cold heart is a dead heart
And it feels like I've been buried alive by love
If I should die before I wake
Pray no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
If I should die before I wake
Pray no one my soul to take
If I wake before I die,
Rescue me with your smile
I've been buried alive by love
I've been buried alive by love
Buried alive by love
I've been buried alive by love
I've been buried alive by love
I've been buried alive by love

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following:
"We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..."
With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Indigo
Of Mice & Men
Of Mice & Men
This track is about is about questioning why the sky would choose to be blue if it had the choice to be anything else, “blue also meaning sad,” states frontman Aaron Pauley. “It's about comforting a loved one in a time of loss by telling them you feel blue, too.”
Wow someone needs their nappy changed. HIM's music is very drippy and lovey....but it isn't like they try to hide that fact.
That's one of the things that's so great about them - their lead singer is a guy who isn't afraid to be sensitivity or discuss emotions and romance. Stop trying to be so fucking macho.
Valo has a brilliant voice, and yes, correct, he is very good looking. He IS the band. I'd challenge most people to name another member.
Regardless, I like HIM a lot, although I don't have any of their albums, and this song is very very catchy.
if arent into the music then fuck off on the HIM lyrics pages
p.s i like HIM and im a guy - im straight correct me if im wrong but in order to be gay, quiffporn, you have to be attracted to the same sex - im not and im sure other male HIM fans arnt too. i think thats being romantic not gay so there you got.... BURNED!!!
As far as quiff goes at the expense of sounding cliche opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Therefore, people like quiff who come on these boards and bash the bands are just to be ignored because they are just asking for attention. The best thing to do as aforemetioned is to ignore the person. That is what makes our country so great. We can have beliefs that don't agree with everyone else, and not get killed for it. So that is about it. And by the way I am a 20 year old male who listens to HIM just to disprove the stereotype earlier. Oh and this song is great :)
lol Ok, so does anybody know what the paradox in the song means? "To die is to know that you're alive."
It seems that some people like to get their adrenaline from spending way too much time online insulting other peoples music taste. Yet they have the nerve to be upset when someone disagrees with their views. I love HIM so much. Yet, that character "quiffporn", decided to push everyones buttons. And he had the nerve to talk back when someone else disagreed with his opinions. he even insulted his sisters taste in music. All those 14 yr old grls? did that include his sister as well? how respectable is that? I dont give a damn if he likes it or hate it, I like it and thats all that matters. Im just replying because everyones buttons got pushed because they let their buttons get pushed. Seriosly. its just an opinion. and everyone is egging quiffporn on. he loves to respond, im sure its because he's bored. He has nothing betterto do than to be online responing negativly and twisting others words around so he gets the right of way. Why else would he reply so constantly to EVERY comment posted? He wanted attention. He's definately insecure. im sure he's probably stopped posting his asinine comments. Its been years. and even if he has not, it doesnt matter because everyone is entitled to their opinion. And though I disagree with his opinion, It doesnt mean Im gonna cut on him like some of the other people here did. im not trying to make myself to be a know it all, Im really not. I just think no one should respond to "quiffporns" comments. thats the only way to really show him that NO ONE ON THIS POST CARES IF HE DISLIKES_HIM. As long as we all like HIM in the end ♥
How is it that no one has commented on this song....in my opinion its the best SONG i have ever heard from HIM...its so deep and so true...i think that he's trying to not let go of some one who is trying to let go of him....or probabaly that he really loved some one and they didnt love him the same way...and he says "rescue me with your smile" like when i wake up i want and need you to be with me.
It doesn't matter what HIM song you post comments about coz they're all about the same thing-love and drippy shit! I love him but sometimes it does get a bit boring!
Ive gotta say I know what you mean, about HIM's marketing talents, but regardless of the fact the singer is flaunting his snazzy looks I still think they're a really good band. Back on track this is a really good song. Good on em.
