Window Seat Lyrics
So, presently I'm standing
Here right now
You're so demanding
Tell me what u want from me
Concluding
Conentrating on my music, lover, and my babies
Makes me wanna ask the lady for a ticket outta town...
So can I get a window seat
Don't want nobody next to me
I just want a ticket outta town
A look around
And a safe touch down
Window seat
Don't want nobody next to me
I just want a chance to fly
A chance to cry
And a long bye bye..
But I need u to want me
Need you to miss me
I need your attention
I need you next me
I need someone to clap for me
I need your direction
Somebody say come back
Come back baby come back
I want u to need me
Come back come back baby come back
Come back come back baby come back
Come back come back baby come back
So, in my mind I'm tusslin'
Back and forth 'tween here and hustlin'
I don't wanna time travel no mo
I wanna be here
I'm thinking
On this porch I'm rockin'
Back and forth light Lightning Hopkins
If any body speak to Scotty
Tell him beam me up..
So can I get a window seat
Don't want nobody next to me
I just want a ticket outta town
A look around
And a safe touch down
Window seat
Don't want nobody next to me
I just want a chance to fly
A chance to cry
And a long bye bye..
But I need you to miss me
Need some body come get me
Need your attention
Need your energy yes I do
Need some one to clap for me
Need your affection
Somebody say come back
Come back baby come back
I want u to need me
Come back come back baby come back
Come back come back baby come back
Come back come back baby come back
But can I get a window seat
Don't want nobody next to me

Bye bye........

i like you guys answer but i hope we dont mind if i add my 2 cents
i think erykah badu has a strong message of faith and spirituality in her lyrics, many of which the people that hold the public interest of music production dont agree with anyway, and she wants the people who still believe in truth to stand up and say erykah badu is right and as a fan and an optimist i want her to stay in rotation. erykah badu feels as though her fans should reassure her that her music is still touching people. but i hope the end doesnt mean shes saying goodbye to the industry [to the art]... alot of artists these days say one thing and display another and the video has symbolism throughout that hold open another meaning [or perspective]
so how did it relate to the location of the video... Where JFK was shot? and I think she was trying to prove a point when taking off her clothes. Did she really have to strip to get people to hear her song. That shows how pitful todays audience and new artist can be! Such as nicki soulja boy and much more- there lyrics are silly and childish. they really dont have any meaning or knowledge behind them. BUt she cant compete with that type of mess. so she probably needs that break! or a long goodbye til a real challenger...

Feels like the desire to ascend. Maybe a little second guessing in there. She still has some baggage or desires to drop off the scale.
A mess of contradictions. Lady wants her space, and she doesn't. Like what you say, LoveEpiphany. The desire to ascend. She's evaluating what's important, and taking a breather. But life is always in motion. I like the lyrics. It's refreshing. Who doesn't want a window seat, and a ticket out of town sometimes.
I agree with spectula, alot of contradictions in the song - but I think that is the point. It's part of human nature to contradict, and this contradiction is very common. Wanting one's own private space, and then feeling alone at the same time. Sort of like that saying "we don't know what we've got till it's gone", Erykah doesn't know what she has until she doesn't have it anymore.
this song is pretty much how I feel right now. People can be demanding and it's hard to feel listened to when you feel like everyone is talking over each other. sometimes you need a breath, a beat away from the constant chatter of the real world. sometimes it is good to get that space and to just be alone. at the end of her video, erykah fakes being shot and purple blood gushes out of her head, spelling the word "groupthink" in cursive, and she talks about how individuality takes a back seat to being invested in group dealings. the idea of this song is that in order to remain yourself, sometimes you just need to get a window seat and be alone and reflect. I think I could use a window seat right about now.
This song is fantastic. It's just pitch perfect.
