Pearl of the Stars Lyrics
Each night, I wish to God he'd let her rest.
Oh, this hurts me more than any man can bear.
She's my angel from the west.
There will never be one to take her place.
When you go, I will know.
Follow you to the stars.
And when the world burns apart,
There will be a place for your car.
I'd give you everything,
If only I'd have known you'd take it.
But you don't, 'cause you're you.
That's why I'll always love you.
My pearl of the stars.
Oh, the pills she takes, the pain of which she drowns.
A baby sleeps next door, she's new in town.
I'll tell her how wonderful you were.
I'll remember everything you were to me.
When you go, I will know.
Follow you to the stars.
And when the world burns apart,
There will be a place for your car.
I'd give you everything,
If only I'd have known you'd take it.
But you don't, 'cause you're you.
That's why I'll always love you.
My pearl of the stars.
[Solo]
When you go, I will know.
Follow you to the stars.
And when the world burns apart,
There will be a place for your car.
I'd give you everything,
If only I'd have known you'd take it.

Ok so I'll give what I think of this, If you haven't read the book Year of the Black Rainbaw SPOILERS! Anyways there is a chapter in the book titled Pearl of the Stars. This chapters tells of what is going though Pearls mind after being kidnapped by Wilhelm Ryan. They have locked her in a glass coffin that is being suspended above a deep pit. Now clearly this song dosnt sound anything like I just described but my guess is that this is not from Pearls view but from Leonards view. The chapter before this named World of Lines (hint hint another song) Leonard found out about Pearls fate and of his duty to develop the Monstar. So Im guessing this song is him weeping over the missing Pearl. Im done :)
This is quite possibly one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics, the sound, Claudio's voice. It just fits together so beautifully.
"our" baby
this song is so sad. so very sad. i am glad they added "And when the world burns apart, There will be a place for your car."( as in no one will be left park any place XD XD i think) it ads just enough humor so i don't cry all over the place. Claudio sings so well on this one i love his voice and he sounds so sad. it ads to it.
Ha! I had been wondering what he meant by "a place for your car"! Couldn't figure it out for the life of me... I like this explanation. ^ ^b

As a couple people have said already, it should be "Our baby sleeps next door"
"and when the world burns apart, there'll be a place for your car"
I find this eerily romantic.
Claudio sounds so sad when he sings this song. Ugh this album sounds so amazing and is so good.
Couple of small changes, nothing big.

Damn this is a great song. Yes, there is raw emotion is this one. But you can totally hear the "writer" Claudio speaking here when he refers to "angel from the west" Claud's wife is originally a model from L.A. and he is from the East Coast.

So this is about Pearl Hohenburger, Leonard Hohenburger's wife, who created Coheed, Cambria, and Inferno (Claudio's dad, mom, and uncle respectively)

They lost her son and it broke her heart and her mind. She's also held captive and driven insane in by Wilhelm Ryan in order to coerce Leonard into creating the Monstar virus to destroy humanity. Wishing to God he'd let her rest must reference the suffering of the loss of their son, or the pain she experienced while being help captive, or possibly her suicide.

After her death, Leonard creates a daughter from their DNA, Josephine, that's the baby that sleeps next door, as she grows. He'll tell her of her mother, Pearl. He never gets that chance, however, he faces Mayo Deftinwolf to get himself killed.
He's pretty devoted to Pearl, and her suffering is tough on him. It's sad because of this grief he experiences watching his wife's sanity degenerate, be held captive because of him, even blame him for her son's death and captivity, and kill herself. She was without a doubt his everything.
It's funny you say that, because I think this is my favourite song on the album.

Not really sure why he was down rated.
Not really sure why he was down rated.
I'm almost tempted to say he's saying "our baby" instead of "a baby," but I can't be totally sure.
It sounds like 'our' to me.

Very well could be "our baby" - if Year of the Black Rainbow is a prequel to the other albums, then "our baby" could be Josephine, Coheed and Cambria's first child. No idea for sure though, I haven't read the novel that goes with the album.

bomb it has to be Josephine. Claudio sings "our baby she's" the twins were about 3 or 4 when Coheed poisoned them. and since its a prequel and there are no references to the other children esp Claudio then process of elemination states that its her.

Your right. It is our baby
Your right. It is our baby
Actually. Our baby is Josephine but its not Coheed and Cambria's child. It is the proffesor that made coheed and cambria. Josephine was made with the doctors and his wifes (pearl) DNA. But she does play the part of Coheed and Cambria's child in the album "Second stage turbine Blade" Rock on

I find it kind of ironic that she was created to be a fail-safe for the Monstar virus in Coheed and Cambria, yet she is killed before she can be of any use...

Amazing song!
This song and Made out of Nothing (All That I Am) feel to me like the defining songs of Year of the Black Rainbow.
