Spanish Moss Lyrics
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
apologize...
It could be a good life
it could be such a very good life
we could find a place for just me and you
Need some place to stay safe
need some place to stay safe and warm
Why don't we deserve the same?
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
apologize...
Look into the Spanish moss
let your mind conjure up old ghosts
ride your bike through lost Florida streets
Everything we've said and done
can be so easily forgotten
You can always change who you are
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
apologize...
I caught a glimpse of this life
it can be such a very good life
we could find a place for just me and you
But it's not yours to keep
yeah, the truth will tear your heart out
In a world run by gangs
you're stuck standing in a bread line
stuck standing in a bread line
stuck standing
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
You just need to find
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
apologize...
some place to get away
you can forget your name
And there's no need to apologize
apologize...
it could be such a very good life
we could find a place for just me and you
Need some place to stay safe
need some place to stay safe and warm

And there's no need to apologize
some place to get away

And there's no need to apologize

Spanish moss, also called Florida moss...
At least some extra information for the song everybody turned their backs on.
Also, it's not 'I try to lift up this', it's 'I caught a glimpse of this life'.
Though no one is interested, apparently.
Yes, apparently.
I absolutely love this song. I'm surprised there isn't more comments (or the correct lyrics....) for it.
I think it is about moving on and not living in the past. Considering Tom now lives in St. Augustine, Florida gives him a sort of nostalgic feeling. Make sense? I think so... =D
"Look into the Spanish moss Let your mind conjure up old ghosts Ride your bike through lost Florida streets Everything we've said and done Can be so easily forgotten You can always change who you are"
By far my favorite song from this album! This is a very personal song that talks about the need for someone to find and be themselves. However, taking a step further it also says there is no need to be ashamed of who you might be.
I believe the referece to Spanish moss is a metaphore for the web of life and all the difficulties that life can bring. However, when you find that place where you can be yourself, the moss dissappears - "Can be so easily forgotten"
The final reference in the song is the lyrics that make reference to the structure of the world around us: "In a world run by gangs Just you stuck standing in a bread line" The "gangs" are a metaphore for the government or perhaps society as a whole and we are simply following what is expected of us "Standing in a bread line"
Given Tom's announcement about his sex change, I'm sure this is a personal dialog about him trying to find out who he is and how he will exist in this world when the news get's out. He's struggling with his inner self while trying to fit into the expectations of society, giving this song an entire new meaning considering the change.
