The American Scream Lyrics
They tied that yellow ribbon round the oak tree
Theyve worn out all the prayer in their hearts
All along thought they were rooting for the home team
As theyre sent into the game and torn apart
We twist this tourniquet upon a pipeline
Who carries all the pain in the world
As we blindly clap and cheer from the sidelines, Its clear
On a losing streak from the very start
And thats where they found me
In the cemetary
A smoking gun in my hand now Im damned for the land of the free
Sing with me
The American Scream
They took that faded ribbon off the oak tree
Theve worn out all the hope in their hearts
All along thought I was doing the right thing
Now Im lying in a pool of my blood
And thats where she found me
In the cemetary
A smoking gun in my hand now Im damned for the land of the free
Sing with me
And thats where she found me

Powerful song, based on the suicide of an American soldier at his mother's grave.
Second verse should say "We twist this tourniquet upon a pipeline" and the third verse should say "They took that faded ribbon off the oak tree."

Other than than it's a great song. Being a US service member I hear about incidents like this all the time. It is like losing a brother in a way.

The beginning of this song sounds like war brain which was on a Bush compilation. I wonder if Matt did this on purpose since both songs are somewhat about war and soldiers.
Warbrain wasn't about war, it was about the night after drinking and feeling like you've got a war going on in your head. It says so in the Remains inlay.

Yea man your totally right, but i also believe it has more meaning then just that. I did some digging and found out warbrain has to do with their on going war with the bouncing souls.

Bloody brilliant song, and brilliant album! =D
The whole album sounds like a fresher sound than previous, don't get me wrong I love these guys and the new album, but it seems like something may have affected their approach on this album. This song has a lot of meaning.
Soldier is over sea's while his mother is dying back home. Upon his return, his mother has passed, so he meets her at her grave and shoots himself. Powerful stuff.. Reminds me off "Over and Out,"
"Over and out," she said, from a hospital bed "For what it's worth, it doesn't hurt, don't cry." "Over and out," he said, with a .45 to his head "The war has taken everything from me, it's all I see so..."
This used to be my go to song to listen to by the trio. Not so much anymore but I still love it, my mom used to play it all the time.
