The Weakends Lyrics
Quicksand as a coat of arms,
Loose leaf, and some liquid fiction.
Last rites every Friday night,
Am I weaker with the lights on?
High tide tight around the neck,
The same song everybody's bleeding.
What makes me so different?
The insides work the same.
You ever fear the dark impressions of your future?
The slightest gravestone whisper?
The stillness of your heart?
I feel it growing dark,
A fever inching deeper,
A fever inching to the core.
I'll kick tomorrow,
Fight back at the pouring rain.
I'll send the weak ends down the drain, down the drain.
I'll kick tomorrow,
Fight back at the pouring rain.
I'll send the weak ends down the drain, down the drain.
Shorelines all around the world,
Bright lights and some heavy breathing.
Lipstick and the dagger's kiss-
Just a figment of a feeling.
Hands pressed up against the chest,
Holding out for the big connection.
Last lunge never looked so good,
It's a junk show all the way.
As years go crashing by,
I think of all I've pondered.
So many minutes wandered,
So many things undone.
I've tried to figure out
How many lives I've wasted waiting for the perfect time to start.
I'll kick tomorrow,
Fight back at the pouring rain.
I'll send the weak ends down the drain, down the drain.
I'll kick tomorrow,
Fight back at the pouring rain.
I'll send the weak ends down the drain, down the drain.
I'll kick tomorrow

The great thing about the lyrics in this song is that they can easily relate to Justin's problems with addiction, but still are general enough for other people to get something out of them:
"As years go crashing by, I think of all I've pondered, So many minutes squandered, So many things undone. I've tried to figure out How many lives I've wasted waiting for the perfect time to start."
I mean, seriously, we have all felt, late at night, that we are wasting our time. Go talk to the girl you have a crush on, start playing the guitar some more, call up some friends - there's no perfect time to start, you just have to do it.
This is how I heard it:
"Last rights every Friday night, Am I weaker with the lights on?"
I'm certain that "last rights" is correct but I don't know for sure about the second line.

Three comments thats it? This song is sickk, prolly the best one on the new album...soo goood.
Kickass song. Lipstick and the DAGGERs kiss
what makes me so different the insides work the same.
Its a JUNK show all the way.
I'll KICK tomorrow.
So we have a daggers kiss producing a figment of a feeling. He feels different from everyone because he gets please from this. Junk show? kicking a habit? Sounds kinda like heroin, but i wouldnt go that far. Definitely many many interpretations of this, but i find the drug reference to be very prominent.
This song is about fighting his alcohol addiction. He wants to send the "weak ends" down the drain, aka alcohol being poured down the sink. He also questions why this addiction has consumed his life, since he's always saying he'll start tomorrow:
"As years go crashing by, I think of all I've pondered, So many minutes squandered, So many things undone. I've tried to figure out How many lives I've wasted waiting for the perfect time to start."
Either way, great song :)
In regards to the alcohol comment....
"Shorelines all around the world, Bright lights and some heavy breathing. Lipstick and the dagger's kiss- Just a figment of a feeling.
Hands pressed up against the chest, Holding out for the big connection. Last lunge never looked so good, It's a junk show all the way."
The rockstar lifestyle of travelling around the world and touring also usually goes hand in hand with heavy drinking and partying. A lot of songwriters still broach this subject, from Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio to Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids. It sounds like he keeps saying that he has to change that attitude, but just waits until the next time... every time.
Just my two cents.
