Her Words Destroyed My Planet Lyrics
Maybe you were right after all
Maybe I'm just bad news
I've been drowning in memories
Call it residual booze
I fell asleep watching Veronica Mars again
I still futz with that tourniquet
I tried to squeeze on your dreams
Slung it on, it's a perfect fit
What do you suppose that means
My parents keep asking
When you're planning on coming around
If we'd only stayed together
I might not have fallen apart
But the words you served destroyed my planet
I'll stall before I start
I'll stall before I start anything at all
Got a job at Uncommon Grounds
I finally shaved off that beard
Sold my Xbox to Jimmy down the street
Hell, I even quit smoking weed
I'm taking an online course
I'm learning to speak Japanese
If we'd only stayed together
I might not have fallen apart
But the words you served destroyed my planet
I'll stall before I start
I'll stall before I start anything at all
The things that used to mean so much to me
Have gone the way of dinosaurs
Hopes and dreams and everything
All I want for you to be is happy or something
I guess anything is better than the time you spent
Hoping I got it sorted out
I sent you a postcard but the post office sent it back
They said the building's been torn down
I just miss what I thought we both had
If we'd only stayed together
I might not have fallen apart
But the words you served destroyed my planet
It's all my fucking fault
If we'd only stayed together
I might not have fallen apart
But the words you served destroyed my planet
I'll stall before I start
I'll stall before I start anything at all
Maybe I'm just bad news

"This is the most honest song I've ever written," says frontman Justin Pierre about the cut, which describes "some J.J. Abrams alternative universe reality type shit" about what direction his life might have taken had an ex-girlfriend not broken up with him three years ago.
"There are [people] that I've run into that blame the direction or outcome of their lives on a single incident," Pierre tells SPIN.com. "This idea has always fascinated me."
"Had the woman not split up with me, I would most likely not have spiraled out of control to the point of no return, which allowed me to start over from scratch," the singer/guitarist explains. "What seemed like a tragedy three years ago turned out to be the best thing for both parties involved."
Another fun fact about the song: In its first verse, Pierre sings about falling asleep watching Veronica Mars, a reference to the moment he began to write the tune. "I had just finished watching the final season of Veronica Mars on DVD, so I was relatively upset that there would be no more episodes," Pierre recalls.

I absolutely LOVE the VM shoutout :D
These lyrics need to be changed. I'm pretty sure it's "I guess anything is better than the time you spent hoping I’d get it sorted out."
The singles from this album seem to just get better and better :D
I'm sure its the same for a lot of people but i feel like all of MCS's songs are about my life. Whenever i'm in a bad mood i listen to Broken Heart and feel better. I know that's f***ed up but it cheers me up to know for certain that i'm not the only person who feels exactly what i feel. "If we'd only stayed together i might not have fallen apart. The words you served destroyed my planet." Thats my life.
Indeed, that's what I love about MCS, it's always something I can relate to. Justin Pierre knows exactly what to say to us (I mean us because we're a very special type of people, a new generation if you will) He's very special indeed. His lyrics are amazing.

how do i edit lyrics? i can see a few errors in here. its residual "booze" not blues, and "I'm" instead of "I'l"
I wish users could edit. Only the original poster can. But in this case, that person is me, so I'll fix it.

I'm pretty sure it was 'blues' and not 'booze' because it definitely sounds like it and it also makes more sense. "Residual booze" doesn't really make much sense, whereas "residual blues" can describe a state in which there's still a slight feeling of depression.

it's "booze"
it's "booze"
Fair enough, you're the one with the lyric book!

It's a play on 'residual blues' with respect to Justin's past troubles with alcohol.

I love Veronica Mars. And J.J. Abrams. I also love how the bands I love are into the same stuff as me. It makes me feel right.
aghhhhhhhhh at first i reaaally hated they're new album, because i was real big fan and then theyre whole style kinda just changed. but its been some time and i'm realy starting to warm up to this one ;] i guess can't stay away from too long.
Justin said at the show tonight that it was written about the same girl that "this is for real" is written about.
