The Last Song Lyrics

Here we are
Mid-air off of the cliff
Staring down at the end again
But then again
Maybe we're finally on
The road that's headed away
From all your complaining
Of hearing the same song
But, baby, we'll hear it when I'm gone
It's time to turn on

The last song (oh!)
The last song (oh!)
But if you're wasting love
Then all of our time disappeared
And the sad song ends up being
The last song you'll ever hear

It was hard but I'd do it again
Holding hands with my friend again
But then again
Maybe we gave our all
A song we'll never forget
Baby let 'em play it
Maybe it'll save the world
They gon' miss hearing it when it's gone
But it's time to turn on

The last song (oh!)
The last song (oh!)
What if we loved every moment that we coulda spend
And the perfect song ends up being
The last song you'll ever hear

BRIDGE
You'll never know when a song's gonna play
The last song you hear is the one you made
Your song was beautiful
That's why I started singing it
But this song is our song
It's playing 'til the end
Even if it is

The last song

The last song (oh!)
The last song (oh!)
What if your wasting love and
All of our time disappear
And the perfect song ends up being
The last song you'll ever hear

This is using song as a metaphor for a relationship. I think the message being sent across is to make sure you're with the right person, because if you find out later in life you're not right for each other it might be too late to find someone who is.

She broke up with someone and feels it was for the best, she wants the perfect song to be the last song she hears.

great take on it .)

Isn't it "but baby won't be hearin' it when I'm gone" Not "We'll be hearin it when I'm gone" cuz it's her song and when he's left her, he won't hear it anymore to complain about?

I mean I know it definitely sounds like "We'll be hearin it when I'm gone" but I don't understand what that's implying in reference to the verse?

This song reminds me of sitting in Isle of Man airport on the day i moved away from Isle of Man to Leeds, it was literally the last song i listened too before turning off my ipod and getting on the plane to a new life in Leeds...it was a gloomy day and i can remember every detail everytime i listen to the song.
