Caligulove Lyrics

In the temple,
I was an offering.
Of the heartless,
I was an offering.
I was humbled
& reborn...
into a god.

Darling,
a sensitive soul is just
a tyrant who enslaves
all those around him
to make certain he
is hurt
at all times.

I don't need a reason baby,
put your arms around me.
Hold me real close,
CLAP ME IN IRONS,
come on caligulove me,
come on caligulove me.

You can hear it,
as an offering.
If you're a good girl,
as an offering.
A righteous choir is singing,
as an offering...
No, screaming,
as they burn.

Darling, there are no taboos
in lust.
My veins coarse blood that's so
venomous.
WHEN HEARTLESS HEARS A HEARTBEAT...
he's jealous.

I don't need a reason baby,
put your arms around me.
Hold me real close,
clap me in irons,
c'mon caligulove me.
I already got you baby,
put yourself upon me.
I'm in lust,
a slave to desire,
when you caligulove me.
C'mon on,
love me.
Hold me real close....
love me.
I need your caligulove girl.
Caligulove.

As Josh Homme is fond of saying (and as a lot of songs seem to be) "This song's about fuckin"

sounds a little like "in a gadda da vida / in the garden of eden"

Love this song, have only listened to it a couple of times. Not sure yet what the lyrics mean but think Caligula was a Roman Emperor who was particularly debauched.

I think it's pretty self explanatory in the chorus this one. It's just a guy that wants to fuck the brains out of some girl, it's got a primitive feel to it with the rhythm as well which makes me think it's more about pure lust than love (and it's backed up by the lyrics). Caligula was a Roman Emporer who was known for being a bit insane and particularly ruthless by the way, so it fits in with crazy, primitive sex with no strings attached.

You're missing a line after "He's jealous". It should be "He's jealous... So jealous..."

Also, Caligula was a lusty transvestite of an emperor, so the name certainly fits.

Josh Homme at Rock AM Ring - "This song is about loving someone too god damn much"...

I think it's about a guy who gets offered as a sacrifice to 'the gods' long ago, and comes back as some sort of undead creature who falls in love with some girl.

"in the temple/i was an offering/and was reborn"

"when the heartless hears a heartbeat/he's jealous"

"I don't need a reason baby / Put your arms around me"

It's awesome how Homme borrowed a verse from Eagles of Death Metal's "Solo Flights," another band also co-formed by Homme.
