Think I saw her for the first time maybe in a news stand
She was picking a mag and dressed oblique
She called me baby, and was a mean lady with the song on the radio
So I told her I was rich, then she asked could I use a dirty bitch? (of course)

[Chorus]
Then she said, 'No one loves me' neither do I
You get what you give,
I give goodbye
And if I should vanish
Don't get caught off guard
Don't hold it against me
Unless it gets hard

(Oh, oi, oo, oop! Aaawhhha, yea, aaawhhha, that's right)

Well if sex is a weapon, then smash, boom, pow,
How ya like me now?
You can't always do it right, you can always do whats left
So I told her I was trash, she winked and laughed and said I already know
I've got a beautiful place to put your face' and she was right,

[Chorus]

Cutting her loose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, your gonna lose control
Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, your gonna lose control
Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, your gonna lose control
Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, you're gonna lose

I know how to burn with passion
Hold nothing back for future ration
Give all you are, do not make haste
Savor every single taste

You get, cut

I know how to be controlled
Do what they said, son, watch your tongue
Quick to react, to break the box
Turn on queue, as your cell door locks
Behind you

I know how to be lost in lust
Not because you should, but because you must
It burns white hot, and so climbs the mile
This lightening strike isn't always kind

So use me up
Use me up

A few things... I don't think we're analyzing all of Josh's poetry to it's maximum potential. THe reason I love QOTSA lyrics and TCV lyrics especially is because Josh adds amusing plays on words and double entendres in all his songs. A few things that haven't been mentioned that I thought I should bring to your attention...

"you can't always do right, you can always do what's LEFT" (instead of "right" or correct. Just a little funny play on words he threw in)

"So I told her I was trash, so she winked & laughed and said I already know..." Earlier in the song he told her he was rich so he could convince her to have sex with him. Here, he's admitting he was full of shit. But she said she already knew so obviously she didn't care anyways. This song is entirely about have sex for the fun of it and giving into your desires.

"I know how to burn with passion Hold nothing back for future ration Give all you are, do not make haste Savor every single taste you get Cut

I know how to beat control Do opposite of what you're told Quick to react, to break the box Turn on queue, as your cell door locks Behind you

I know how to be lost in lust Not because you should, but because you must It burns white hot, and so clouds the mind This lightning strike isn't always kind"

This part of the song is so deep! I guess in a nutshell, he's saying not to get caught up in relationships that aren't going anywhere or you'll feel trapped (in a cell for example) The last stanza is my favourite: Lust is a natural thing that is completely uncontrollable. Whether you control your actions or not is something completely different. Lust clouds your judgement and makes it impossible to make decent choices and it's not always a good thing to have because you can't control when you lust or who you lust for.

Jamafrican, I haven't broken down the song verse by verse (just in general), but here's me giving it a shot...

"Think I saw her for the first time maybe in a news stand She was picking a mag, dressed oblique She called me baby, and was a mean lady with the song on the radio So I told her I was rich, then she asked could I use a dirty bitch? Of course"

(Narrator sees sexy lady at a magazine stand dressed in black. She was flirty, narrator tells her he's rich and she wanted into his life (of course))

Then she said: No one loves me... and neither do I You get what you give, I give goodbye And if I should vanish, Don't get caught off guard Don't hold it against me, Unless it gets hard

(Woman tells him she's pretty much looking for a one-night stand. Don't be offended if I leave tomorrow. "Don't hold it against me, unless it gets hard" has innuendo all over it.)

Well if sex is a weapon, then: smash, boom, pow How you like me now? You can't always do right, you can always do what's left So I told her I was trash, so she winked & laughed and said I already know... 'I've got a beautiful place to put your face', and she was right

(They're having sex, narrator's pretty much in cocky mode about it. Sometimes you can't always go for the relationship or whatever and just have to settle for what's left, this random chick on the street. Last line is self-explanatory.)

Then I said: No one loves me... and neither do I It makes perfect sense, So I never asked why I'll go tomorrow, 'Cause life doesn't wait You can keep your soul, I don't want a cell mate

(Narrator tells lady he isn't looking for anything serious and just a one-night stand essentially. I don't want a relationship, boldly stated in the last sentence.)

Cutting her loose, I'm ready to go People in the world, you're gonna lose control Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go People in the world, you're gonna lose control Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go People in the world, you're gonna lose control Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go People in the world, you're gonna lose

    (He's out, what's next...)

(BOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Just wanted to throw this in because this part of the song always gets me.)

I know how to burn with passion Hold nothing back for future ration Give all you are, do not make haste Savor every single taste you get Cut

(Live in the moment, don't hold back for tomorrow.)

I know how to beat control Do opposite of what you're told Quick to react, to break the box Turn on queue, as your cell door locks Behind you

(Have fun or you'll be stuck in relationship jail.)

I know how to be lost in lust Not because you should, but because you must It burns white hot, and so clouds the mind This lightning strike isn't always kind

(Sex is best when you're in lust.)

So use me up Use me up

(Use me up and move on.)

I can't believe how much I broke this song down but it's still awesome.

This is just straight up baby-making music. Seriously, I don't need to break apart the lyrics to explain why this song is about sex haha.

Sidenote: I fucking LOVE this song.

Hey all, I updated the lyrics to fix inaccuracies. I used the booklet from the CD for this.

@ConorM: Now that I have fixed a mistake, I think the line makes a little more sense.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
