I definitely agree that this song is in part about trying to reach out to people and being unable to, but I also think the line "I climb clouds/To the bluest of the sky/And all i saw was air" might be about the non-existence of god.

The song expresses that one is not being understood in general. Not getting any validation for what he does or responses to the feelings he expresses ('but none of them cared'). He 'climbed clouds' for a cause or someone but all he got is 'air', the big nothing at the end…
There is no resolution, he can't care any more about what went wrong. He rather choses to forget about the whole thing ('I'm not going back').
As Culpa23 said the vocalist is quite hollow as opposed to the beats which even more highlights his struggle inside.

but what makes songs great like this in my opinion is that the music conveys the lyrics and tone or mood of the overall composition. It like blends all together perfectly.
The first verse says she went to the depths of the earth maybe analogous to despair and she crawls out to knock on someone's door but no one's available for her. The second verse she lifts herself up to the clouds and wants to share that spirit by raining down love but no one received it so she's moving on with dignity and not going back. I can relate. That's why I posted three times lol.
