This is a poison everyone knows
It runs through my rivers.
Created and cured by the same, and it will flow.
Tear through these holds, and rip away my heart.
With an effort so constrained, this is the venom in my veins.
This is the venom in my veins, created and cured by the same.
This is the venom in my veins. (I've spoken reckless words?)
And I know I've built a bed of unrest
That destroys my heart once I lay my head down.
Destroys the crutches that I've built,
I thought they were sound.
We are the reasons for health and light, for illness and weakness.
It will flow from my body to yours, an infection that can't be cured.
We are the reasons for health and light, for illness and weakness.
We will tear through these holds.
We will tear through these holds or we will keep them strong.
We are the reasons for health and light.
For illness and weakness, we will tear through these holds
Or we will keep them strong
We will keep them strong.
With an effort so constrained, this is venom in my veins
Created, cured by the same,
By the same.
I've chosen selfless over selfishness,
I've left a bed of disgust and unrest.
Destroyed the crutches that I built myself, I found that they were never sound.
It won't consume my heart anymore.
And I know I've built a bed of peace
That restores my heart once I lay my head down.
Rebuilds the crutches that I destroyed myself.
I plead to change my life, just before I dream
And wake to realize that change is inside me.
We are the reasons for health and light, for illness and weakness.
We will tear through these holds.
We will tear through these holds or we will keep them strong
We are the reasons for health and light.
It runs through my rivers.
Created and cured by the same, and it will flow.

Love in a Vacuum
'Til Tuesday
'Til Tuesday
Well, in my opinion this song is about being a young & maybe a little naive &/or introverted girl and finding yourself loving a man who is at first very charming, carefree & outgoing, and seems at first to be without limits, as in
"There was a time
you opened up every doorway
you didn't mind if everything
wasn't your way"
then that man starts to gradually become more introverted & shows their more possessive/obsessive side to you as the relationship progresses, even while they keep up the appearance of being carefree & outgoing to everyone else,
"Don't pull away
that goes against what you told me
I look in your eyes
I realize what you've sold me
is love in a vacuum"
so you confront them about the way they're acting and of course they deny it,
"I think you've changed
but you insist that
that's not true"
quite possibly they are an addict of some sort, my guess would be cocaine, &/or showing very obsessive behavior towards you (early on in the video for this song we see the man hanging a picture up, it is a very large portrait of Aimee & it is prominently displayed in his/their apartment for the duration of the song), thus their "love in a vacuum",
"You look so strange, so distant
that you're hardly you
Now I can see
how you have been acting different
You say it's me
but I know
that it isn't
it's love in a vacuum"
but still you are in love with them and don't want to leave them and you know that they are truly in love with you and they don't want you to leave them either, maybe they are convinced you can save them from themself, maybe they are so broken that the possibility of an overdose &/or suicide attempt is very real and you want to get through to them that their behavior not only dangerous but it is also just pissing you off and if they don't wise up they run the risk of loosing you, as in the lines
"You will be lonely
if you leave me alone", so you want to save them but can't get through to them due to the addiction &/or emotional problems they have,
"Love in a vacuum
and that's not enough
love in a vacuum
You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
You will be lonely
if you leave me alone
You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
it's just not enough"
you want them to understand that the love they are giving you is not enough when it is filtered through the vacuum of their drug addiction &/or emotional impairment,
"You will be lonely
you'll be the only one who feels this way
it's just not enough
and just wait
you will be lonely
Love in a vacuum
Love in a vacuum
and that's not enough
Love in a vacuum".
'Love In A Vacuum' for me is a hauntingly truthful acute argument on the loneliness of obsession and almost inevitable loss of love that follows people who are broken in some way or another; the obsessives, the coke heads, the drunks, addicts or the just-plain-old emotionally broken; a razor sharp, lyrically driven, deceptively poppy, yet ultimately-depressing-in-the-best-way song.
Quintessential Aimee Mann.
To me, the "venom in my veins" is our own blood. what makes us human, and all of our humanly problems, are created by us, and then cured by us. (Created and cured by the same) Like, say.. I guess I'll refer to "I am Legend." where they thought they had the cure for cancer, and then that cure created a bigger problem, to which Will Smith's blood was immuned to so he was able to find the cure to this new infection, that was created by our own medications. (We are the reasons for health and light, for illness, and weakness) So that is what they are saying about humanity, that we are the destruction as well as the construction of ourselves. Yet it's trying to tell us, inspire us, that we CAN change, we have that power. But habits or addiction, greed, lust, and so many things get in the way; maniplate us. and just the way of humanity, Is An Epidemic.
I must say that your interpretation of these lyrics is an epic one indeed.
i agree..epic indeed
seems to me this song is about sin....and finding comfort christianity and in knowing their sins have been forgiven
now that i think about it, that makes a lot of sense.
i kind of agree with that. i think it is about about sin but more about reconciling them with yourself and learning to move on in a more positive direction. not specifically reconciling them in christianity, just cause there are no obvious references to christianity, and because the band isnt a christian band (which the band themselves have stated). either way this song kicksass!!! WCAR<333
I completely agree with you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way about this song. I love WCAR.
These lyrics have nothing to do with chrisianity in my opinion. Most of the lyrics in here portray buddhist beliefs such as when he sings, "I plead to change my life, just before I dream and wake to realize that change is inside me." Is basically a summary of the purpose of the buddhist religion, to find your inner self and have power over your soul. Buddha means "the awakened one" and it means waking up to find your true self and separate your self from the illusion we call life. I believe the song goes through a lifetime of pain, pleasure, and suffering and ends realizing these things are just tests.

I think what WCAR tries to do is take the best parts of christianity, and different philosophies, like Buddhism, and use them to better peoples' lives. Yes, the positive outlooks and attempt to find the deep meaning does support the Buddhist beliefs, but they also support christianity. Also, "Created and cured by the same," is definitely a christian reference.
the intro sounds funny
AutumnPaintedMindset-very good man, your interpretation is the best i've heard by far.
This songs chorus is the most awkward thing ever. it makes michael Cera look like Sinatra.
awesome song song!!!
He says I spoke your English words; not I've spoken reckless words.
this song is about how we as human beings have the power to either help or destroy others with our words or actions. We as human beings get in the way of our own growth by creating crutches that we lean on) instead of mannin up and doing the right thing that we know we should do. Anger can be a crutch and it seems to fit here: "Destroyed the crutches that I built myself, I found that they were never sound. It won't consume my heart anymore." Anger is consuming: "This is a poison everyone knows It runs through my rivers. Created and cured by the same, and it will flow." If you feed anger it will grow and some people feel a false sense of strength with it ( think bullies) And it will lead to lashing it. It seems this song is starting with a problem, but working through it. By the end he recognizes the problem and vows to fix it:" And I know I've built a bed of peace That restores my heart once I lay my head down. Rebuilds the crutches that I destroyed myself.
I plead to change my life, just before I dream And wake to realize that change is inside me."
Meaning that you can improve yourself no matter what the obstacle in your way. Great message.
