I guess I'll refer to "I am Legend." where they thought they had the cure for cancer, and then that cure created a bigger problem, to which Will Smith's blood was immuned to so he was able to find the cure to this new infection, that was created by our own medications. (We are the reasons for health and light, for illness, and weakness)
So that is what they are saying about humanity, that we are the destruction as well as the construction of ourselves.
Yet it's trying to tell us, inspire us, that we CAN change, we have that power.
But habits or addiction, greed, lust, and so many things get in the way; maniplate us.
