Break up already wake up now
Walk away take it all back now
Don't be quick to lick the scab off
You're spitting in his face with the rest of them
Break up already wake up now
Walk away take it all back now
Don't be quick to lick the scab off
You're spitting in his face with the rest of them
Please give me something I'm so thirsty,
I'm so thirsty
Oh please, let me warn them,
Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here
The chasm isn't fixed yet.
Take this water
Drinking ever deeper, living water
Please give me something I'm so thirsty
I'm so thirsty
Oh, please, let me warn them.
Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here
Please
Please give me something I'm so thirsty
I'm so thirsty
Oh, please, let me warn them.
Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here
Walk away take it all back now
Don't be quick to lick the scab off

The first time I heard the chorus it broke my heart... I really believe that this song is about someone who died and is now in hell because in the chorus she says "Please give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty" and people who had near death experiences in hell talk about how thirsty they were in hell because of how humid it was there and there was no water at all in hell... It also mentions in the bible of how precious water would be to those in hell... And in the song she also says "Oh please, let me warn them Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here" Shes begging God to bring her back to earth to warn everyone that hell really does exist and that its so horrible that she would'nt want anyone on Earth to have to go there. Just watch near death experiences on youtube. This song really does make you realize how bad hell is once your there... Anyways God Bless to you all... hopefully this gave you a better understanding of the song.
Wow, reading your explanation... Wow. I hadn't thought of the song in that way before (and I completely agree) it has given the song a whole new meaning for me. Thank you!

No actually i think the song is about a story on the bible (luke chapter 16 verse 19 through 31) yeah about the story about lazarus and the rich man. Go read it, its fun ^_^

Wow, i definitely agree with HighQueenCrystal. I never thought of this song from that perspective but i love what you were saying. It makes total sense. I'm a Christian and a huge fan of Flyleaf and everytime i hear this song i try to figure out what i think shes saying, but until now i couldnt think of anything. But this is awesome!! haha.

This song is about Luke 16:19—31, 'Lazarus & the Rich Man'
In the story, it talks about a man so poor, the dogs even 'licked his sores.'
It also talks about how the rich man didn't help him, so he was sent to hell. In hell, he looked up and saw Abraham in Heaven and asked 'for a drop of water because he was so thirsty.'
Abraham told him no because there was a 'CHASM' that separated Hell from Heaven and he couldn't come down there, nor could the rich man go up there.
The rich man then begged Abraham to let him 'warn his family about how they should follow God so they won't come to Hell'
I hope that's proof enough. :) I absolutely LOVE this song. The melody, the guitars, the lyrics; everything. I like how this album has more of a Christian feel to it. Oh, and please don't start a 'Flyleaf isn't a christian band' argument. I know they aren't, but I also know they have Christian influences in their music. :) Great band!
Hahaha, that's exactly what I was about to post. Thanks for doing it for me. ;)

Actually, FLyleaf labels themselves christian. Mostly every song they sing is in some relation to Jesus or God. I don't know much about the bible, but your explanation of that story seemed to go great with the song. I just wanted to thank you for posting. (:

That's exactly what I thought when I first heard the song!! Like MetroidFreak said, thats what I was going to post...thanks for it doing it for us!! I love the song. And plus, not trying to start an argument, Flyleaf doesn't "label" themselves a Christian band, but spend a few minutes with Lacey or the boys, and you'll see instantly that they are all deeply devoted Christians, and that rubs off in their music. =)

Yes I agree!!!

I have no doubt whatsoever that Lacey is a Christian. You can see the Joy radiating from Lacey when she's singing "All Around Me."

And ftyd24s interpretation was exactly what I thought of when I first heard this song. :)

Great explanation by ftyd24 and interpretation by ShellyBelly93. I love every song on ‘Memento Mori’, but this is one of my favorites.
With regards to the journal entry in the booklet that comes with the album, this song is also a call to those who walk in sin and death to see the truth and turn towards God. Those who walk in the dark are thirsty for God, for truth. It sounds like Lacey is saying that she was in the dark and is warning others to step into the light like she did and not drag anyone into the dark. While one is living on earth, there is a chasm between Earth and Hell. If one dies in the darkness, the chasm will be fixed (sealed), the person will go to Hell, and there will be no escaping it. The life-giving water (Jesus, truth, etc.) can save a person and quench his/her thirst.
its more or less bout missions....how it talks in the bible that in hell we are always thirsting for something more (hint hint God) it talks bout how the person wants to warn the people of the impending doom that is waiting for them on the other side if they dont accept christ as their savior. the song relates more to a vision a person had of God showing them what hell is truly like and how hell is well hell and how when God brought them back and how they have this drive to tell people bout God and what could happen if they dont accept him as their savior...."the chasm isnt fixed yet" means that the fight between good and evil is never over until Jesus returns
I think this song is about a Christian that has strong passion to spread to gospel. He/She has strong passion. He/She knows that in the end these people will suffer from what they are doing (sinning).
The chorus means the Christian is praying to God that he should not come back again too early. He/She is asking God to give him/her more time to warn these people and know God and repent before Jesus comes back on earth (that will be the end of the world).
"Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here" - this line means end of the world, Christians will understand this line.
"Please give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty" - strong passion, doing all means for people to know God, but most of them are not listening
"Oh please, let me warn them," - asking God to give more time to warn these sinning people and for them to know God and repent from their sins.
sorry i didnt do some editing. I have left some typing errors.

i read somewhere that water is portrayed as a source of fear in bible stories (i wouldnt know) so maybe when she is saying dont bring anyone here, maybe she doesnt want people to see the way she is or has become?
If anyone has a better interpretation please post

Water is actually portrayed as the life essence of our spirits. But about interpreting its hard to explain because she is referencing a bible story, well mostly. when she says please give me something I'm so thirsty oh please let me warn them, she is talking about the bible story about the rich man who died and went to hell and saw abraham and lazerous he begged them for one drop of water to cool his tongue and also for a chance to haunt his sons and warn them of this place to give them a heads up about it...

When she says the chasm isn't fixed yet I am led to believe she means there is a chasm between the dead in spirit and believers here on earth she is offering a drink of living water to those thirsty souls before it's too late...
And I also forgot to meantion that Chasm can also refer to as "Bottomless Pit". It mentions in the bible about those who end up in the bottomless pit(Hell). And you know how near the end of the song you hear thousands of people screaming? Those are the people in hell screaming for help...

Wow i never actually thought of it as hell. . thats crazy. now that i read all these comments its given me a new perspective on the song.
I always applied it to how i felt as in when she say "please give me something im so thirsty" i always just imagined it as i feel like somethings missing in me God help me. . but i guess i was wrong
i never thought it was about hell. i was completely blown away when i read all these comments. it gave me a new perspective too. i thought it was about jesus giving us water to drink cuz we'll never have to be thirsty again. i thought of when he met the woman at the well.

wow. you guys are right. it probably is refering to hell. wow, thats so sad now that i think about it. how theyre saying "Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here." and when they say "The chasm isn't fixed yet" then its saying that hell isnt a happy place yet. its not not broken. dont bring anyone here. dont drag them down. but truely an amazing song and wonderful! :)
I have another interpretation for "The chasm isn't fixed yet." I took the word "fixed" to mean "made permanent." For me, to say the Chasm isn't fixed yet is to say it doesn't matter how much you've sinned, what you've done in the past, it's not too late to change your life. The gap between those who are saved and those who aren't isn't permanent. Anyone can change their life by giving it to Jesus.
