Ich Tu Dir Weh (English) Lyrics

Only for me you are alive
I pin medals to your face
You are devoted to me
You love me 'cause I love you not
You bleed for my salvation
A little cut and you get horny
The body totally blemished
Never Mind - anything goes

I hurt you
I'm not sorry
It serves you well
Hear how it screams

With you I'm spoilt for choice
Barbwire in the urethra
Lay your flesh in salt and pus
First you die then you live on
Bites, Kicks, hard punches
Tong, stump saw
wish for something, i won't negate
And insert you rodents

I hurt you
I'm not sorry
It serves you well
Hear how it screams

I hurt you
I'm not sorry
It serves you well
Hear how it screams

You are the ship, I am the captain
Where should this journey go
In the mirror i see your face
You love me 'cause I love you not
I hurt you
I'm not sorry
It serves you well
Hear how it screams

I hurt you
I'm not sorry
It serves you well
Hear how it screams

Love it!

I think it's about an abusive, one way relationship, however, the line "Ich seh' im Spiegel dein Gesicht" (I see your face in the mirror) makes me think maybe it's abuse towards your own self.

The line "Du blutest für mein Seelenheil" (You bleed for the salvation of my soul)leads me to believe it's the soul talking to the body. The soul hates the body so abuses it but the body still loves the soul? Not quite sure. I could totally be off it's just a guess. With people absolutely loathing everything about their bodies these days (how sad) it's totally possible this song is touching on that subject.

I agree, and thanks, if it weren't for you i would have gone on thinking it was about an abusive relationship.

How many of you birds know anything about Rammstein? Not much with this BS about souls.

1) NONE of the Rammstein members are highly religious. In fact two or three of them thinks that such is a waste of time or are highly suspicious of religion itself.

2) Have anyone of you watched the video?

melvarkie is the ONLY one of you noodle-kneed clowns that got it right.

The title speaks volumes Ich Tu Dir Weh - I HURT YOU.

Last I checked the tooth fairy called "god" is all "forgiving".

Ich Tu Dir Weh is about a MASTER and SLAVE relationship. As you would find in BDSM.

More proof none of you have a clue about Rammstein. They almost always aim to be against the norm of society in their albums or songs.

BDSM is considered unsavory by a lot of people.

I advise you thumb-suckers with your "souls" and "god" to look into such a relationship cause if you did, you'd see the meaning as if your "god" etched it into the side of a mountain for you.

Plus the first line "Nur für mich bist du am Leben" (You're only alive for me). I really think it's a message from the soul to the body.

your right about it being soul and body related. look at the video. the way light pours out of tills mouth. its suppose to be the soul speaking. there all dead like in the video. the white skin. tills pale blue (dead looking) eyes. the video is trying to make you see soul and body not just as one. 2 seperate things with wants and needs.

Song Meaning

that makes sense for me :)

I actually think its a song about a master and slave relationship. The master decides what he can do with the slave. And even though the masters only interest is hurting this person and therefor pleasuring himself the slave still loves him. The things done to the slave in this song might be really extreme, though. But i guess that this is just to show how much control this master actually has over this slave.

My Interpretation

@Melvarkie You're correct. These thumb suckers like the idea of "god" and "soul" ... pathetically comical seeing as none of Rammstein's members are religious.

I agree with the people that say that the song is about the relationship between a body and a soul. People hate their bodies and they hurt it to glorify their souls or something to that sense. Here are my interpretations for the song.

"Only for me you are alive" The body exist solely to be occupied and used by the soul.

"I pin medals to your face" I think this implies piercings and similar stuff. Medals represent achievements and people get piercings because they think that the fact that they got them, increases their appeal. Also, the act of wearing medals is like wearing your achievement(similar to wearing a piercing), I think piercings and medals are similar in this sense.

"You are devoted to me" You love me 'cause I love you not" The soul acknowledges that the body is completely devoted to the soul and even though the soul hates the body, the body does everything so the soul can do what it wants and keep on doing what it wants. To show the sense of what it means, here are examples; the body heals wounds, fights sicknesses, and does everything(that is not under the control of the soul) to stay alive.

"You bleed for the salvation of my soul* A little cut and you get horny" Again, the soul enjoys hurting the body. People hurt themselves to feel some sort of excitement or fulfillment. (trust me i know what im talking about)

"The body totally blemished Never Mind - anything goes" The body does not live up to the expectations of the soul and it is full of imperfections. The body does its best to give the soul what it wants but it couldn't. The soul acknowledges that neither it, nor the soul can do anything to give what it wants. This I think leads to frustration and eventually to the point where the soul hurts the body as like a punishment for not being able to give what the body wants.

"I hurt you I'm not sorry It serves you well Hear how it screams" Because the body could not live up to the expectations of the soul, the soul hurts the body as if the body deserves it.

"With you I'm spoilt for choice Barbwire in the urethra Lay your flesh in salt and pus" The soul cites the many ways it can hurt the body as if to threaten the body.

"First you die then you live on" The flesh 'dies' after it is abused but it heals and lives on.

"Bites, Kicks, hard punches Tong, stump saw" Again, ways to hurt the body

"wish for something, i won't negate" The soul asks the body what way does the body want to be hurt.

"And insert you rodents" seems like an extreme way to hurt the body, till escalates.

"You are the ship, I am the captain" The soul is the one that thinks and decides. The body is the mere instrument the soul uses.

"Where should this journey go" What should I do with this life.

"In the mirror i see your face You love me 'cause I love you not" The person sees himself in the mirror and the soul does not like what he sees.

The bridge is definitive proof that this is about an abusive relationship. The true meaning of a song would usually manifest itself in the bridge. There are no sexual or abusive implications the bridge, therefore this song is not about an abusive relationship.

For the video for this song, till actually bore a hole in his left cheek so that he can insert a wire that would power the bulb in his mouth. This adds alot of artistic sense to the video. As tjs2021 has mentioned, the light in his mouth gives a hint that the soul is speaking and till hurts himself just for this effect(emphasizing the theme of this song). Such an amazing man. Till is a true artist.

@SirAndraxTheNaughty Seeing as NONE of the Rammstein members are religious take your tooth fairy god and go climb Mt. Fuji [do try to get lost].

It's about an abusive master / slave relationship. He "hurts" the other but it is "good" for them.. the embodiment of what those "relationships" are.

My Opinion
Cover art for Ich Tu Dir Weh (English) lyrics by Rammstein

I think this song is about addiction and how it can let drugs control your life.

Nur für mich bist du am leben

From knowing an addict i can certainly say that they only live for the high that drugs give them

Ich steck' dir Orden ins Gesicht

Drugs are proven to be physically harmful to the person using them and in the case of people addicted to meth they sometimes pick at their faces which gives them the appearance that metals have been poked in their faces

Du bist mir ganz und gar ergeben

Same as the first line

Du liebst mich denn ich lieb' dich nicht

Addicts love the drug they are addicted to even though it is harming them

Du blutest für mein Seelenheil

A drug's purpose is to be used and metaphorically bleeding (or physically depending on the drug) will happen when the drug's purpose is fulfilled

Ein kleiner Schnitt und du wirst geil

The body starts to release chemicals as soon as the it knows the drug is entering the body to prepare it for the good feeling

Der Körper schon total entstellt

Most drug addicts such as meth addicts and crack addicts don't look after themselves and eventually look disfigured in a way

Egal, erlaubt ist was gefällt

Ich tu dir weh

The substance is harming the user

Tut mir nicht leid

It has no feelings and cannot feel remorse for its harm

Das tut dir gut

Through all this physical harm, the user feels like they're on top of the world.

Hört wie es schreit

Some addicts who are off of their substance can compare the temptation of drug use to the drugs calling out to them, just asking to be used

Bei dir hab ich die Wahl der Qual

There isn't a drug in the world that doesn't have any bad effects that contrast the feeling the user feels

Stacheldraht im Harnkanal Leg' dein Fleisch in Salz und Eiter

These two general torture lines talk about how the substance is tearing apart the body of the user

Erst stirbst du doch dann lebst du weiter

Some drugs like cocaine or meth are known to cause people to OD through cardiac arrest, but if help arrives in time they'll be defibrillated

Bisse, Tritte, harte Schläge Nagelzangen, stumpfe säge

More torture

Wünsch' dir was ich sag' nicht nein

The drugs have no control over how they are used and won't "say no" to the "request" made by the user

Und führ' dir Nagetiere ein

Du bist das Schiff ich der Kapitän

Drugs are usually the ones in control of the addicts life

Wohin soll denn die reise gehn'

The drug will take the user to whatever "high" they want

Ich seh' im Spiegel dein Gesicht

Negative... given the nature of many of rammstein's songs, Im gonna have to say its about him mutilating a body. In the mind of a psychopath, this body "loves him" and that this body wants him to do these things to it. I see you in the mirror refers to wearing that persons face. It does him/her good to have these things done to him/her.

Sorry I think my previous explanation had some typos that might have caused some confusion(I probably got confused writing it xD). Anyway, I revised and updated it in a reply. :)

Rammstein has a lot of double meanings behind their music. Therefore, you can't explain their music very simply. This song was banned for a while because of its masochistic themes and like many have said, I believe it does have a lot to do with the soul and body relationship but I also beleive it compares said relationship to that of a couple, one being a masochist and the other a sado-masochist. The masochist (the body) loves to take the pain from the sado-masochist (the soul). The masochist loves the sado-masochist simply because sado-masochist doesn't love back ("Du liebst mich denn ich lieb dich nicht") but instead inflicts pain and suffering. Fairly disturbing lyrics but still an amazing and beautiful song.
