Northshore Lyrics
Don't bend
Don't bleed
Don't beg
Don't scream
Don't whine
Don't fight
Don't tell me, don't tell me, don't tell me
Don't feel
Don't tear
Don't kiss
Don't care
Don't touch
Don't want me, don't want me, don't want me
Something's so sick about this
My misery is so addictive
I'm halfway there
Watching Northshore from the floor
Singing to you over my shoulder
Don't run
Don't hide
Don't hurt
Don't lie
Don't breathe
Don't try
Don't find me, don't find me, don't find me
Don't cringe
Don't clench
Don't look
Don't flinch
Don't know
Don't go
Don't leave me, don't leave me, don't leave me
Something's so sick about this
My misery is so addictive
I'm halfway there
Watching Northshore from the floor
Singing to you over my shoulder
Don't sing
Don't talk
Don't yell
Don't laugh
Don't think
Don't speak
Don't save me, don't save me, don't save me
Don't stare
Don't glare
Don't heal
Don't mend
Don't take
Don't send
Don't love me, don't love, don't love me
Something's so sick about this
My misery is so addictive
I'm halfway there
Watching Northshore from the floor
Singing to you over my shoulder [x4]
Don't bleed

@pony; I agree. I hear elements from their past albums, but it's still a different one. I like how they're able to do that with each new record.
Anyway, I think Tegan is basically talking about how confusing it can sometimes be after a breakup. When you look over your shoulder at someone without really turning around, you don't really get a good look at them. You have to keep switching shoulders to get different perspectives, and it never equals up to a whole "picture." It's almost as though she's saying, "Don't do anything because I have to determine what emotion I should be feeling based on how you are right now." {Did that make sense?}
That's just my take on the song.
Another classic about trying to get over love!
Oh wait, which of there songs aren't about that...
Just kidding, I love the girls. But yeah "Somethings so sick about this, my misery is so addictive," basically "I'm not letting go, though that's because I don't want to."
Tegan and Sara release yet another beautiful album...way to surpass my expectations.
isn't it amazing?? I'm really proud of them. this album is so entirely different from everything else, even though it clearly also pulls from everything they've done before. you know? it's really cool, I'm so excited!
also, I'm fairly sure the second line is don't bleed, not don't blink
fixed :D
fixed :D
could the 'my misery is so addictive' line be about breaking up with somebody but you are happier then sad about it. breaking up with somebody is the misery but it has become addictive because she feels better alone? im just thinking out loud here.
I'm halfway there watching Northshore from the floor
and the last verse... Don't stare don't glare don't heal don't mend don't take don't send don't love me
Haha I saw them Oct 30, and Tegan said that everytime she sang this song, she didn't know what one of the "don't ___" lyrics was. So she either would make one up or just go "mmhmmm" and made it a game for herself because she didn't feel like looking up the lyrics. :P silly
I think it could also be about sickly enjoying the misery of being alone. Like, as a human you want to be with someone, but you've also come to perversely enjoy the misery of being alone and thus you may bristle at people's attempt to date you even if may have liked them until the moment that they show an interest.
I heard Tegan talking at an interview that this is their attempt at a punk rock song. It's also about how Tegan & Sara went to see Punk bands play in the Northshore. But, I also think it's about someone wanting some space from someone.
