Anyway, I think Tegan is basically talking about how confusing it can sometimes be after a breakup. When you look over your shoulder at someone without really turning around, you don't really get a good look at them. You have to keep switching shoulders to get different perspectives, and it never equals up to a whole "picture." It's almost as though she's saying, "Don't do anything because I have to determine what emotion I should be feeling based on how you are right now."
