Something Brief Lyrics
If I had said what you said
I would have won
But I was just across the isle
On the other side of the world
She could have chosen any of us
But she chose you
It's kind of hard to swallow
To tell you the truth
Oh yeah she was something sweet
Yeah, yeah she was something brief
Something brief
Her purse it was pearled
Her dress it was white
And the contrast between them
Is the beauty I find
The emotion that I feel when she's standing still
Is that of a poor boy
In Beverly Hills
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet
And oh, yeah she was something brief
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet
Oh, yeah she was something brief
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet
I would have won
But I was just across the isle
On the other side of the world
But she chose you
It's kind of hard to swallow
To tell you the truth
Yeah, yeah she was something brief
Something brief
Her dress it was white
And the contrast between them
Is the beauty I find
The emotion that I feel when she's standing still
Is that of a poor boy
In Beverly Hills
And oh, yeah she was something brief
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet
Oh, yeah she was something brief
Yeah, yeah she was something sweet

This must be one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. Personally,I think that the image that it sets right from the beginning is amazingly tragic... seeing the woman you love/loved getting married to someone other than you, and thus "If i said what you said, I would have won", for he could have been the one saying "I do". However, instead of saying those words, he is at the other side of the isle (literally), watching what he could have had. I also like it when he is talking about the contrast, and how "The emotion that I feel when she's standing still, is that of a poor boy in Beverly Hills".
