Part Of It

I've been working with adhesives Chains and locks and ropes and knots to tether. But nothing's sticking to the pieces, I can't seem to hold it all together. But you should know 'Cause that explains why it all just fell apart.

Well I've been trying to ingest this But everything to me just seems like nonsense.

I swear this to you, I wish that this was not the truth But it's something that you fell into And crawling out is hard on you I'm not sure it's what you want to do Not convinced it's what you want to do.

It's just the weight of the world Given out under the string. And we're a part of it, everyone, And we're a part of it, everything.

And when a nightmare finally does unfold The nightmare finally shows It's not the end of the world Just a calamity,

Pretty sure he says "Cusack on the lawn of your heart" as a reference to the scene in the movie Say Anything.

Love the new album and just find it amazing how it comes out when i JUST come out of my first serious relationship... i feel this album shall be my theme album :P

I'm finding it terribly hard to understand what Part of it is about. Part of what? The break-up? The separation? Does this song confirm my theory that the loved one's about to die from a disease? Maybe the perspective is knowing that this world is temporary, and there's an afterlife.

"Its not the end of the world just you and me and we're part of it" its seem "Part of It" means the world?

The verses it seems that he's just talking about how their relationship fell apart and how that's a tragedy to them.

And then in the chorus I guess what he's saying is that even though it's not really affecting everyone, it affects them (narrator and ex), and they are a part of everyone.

Does that make sense? I clearly do not have the gift of communication that Thiessen does.

I think this song is about the end of the world... XD

a good song, but one of the weakest on the album

I think he's saying that even though the end of this relationship is really tough on him, that there's more to life. He's saying there's a big world our there, and it doesn't revolve around him.

To me, this song is clearly about his relationship with Shannon ending after she found out he had been cheating.

--> He's been doing everything in his power to keep them together after she found out, but it's not working.

"It's not the end of the world, Just you and me. We're a part of it, everyone We're a part of it, everything. And if a nightmare ever does unfold, Perspective is a lovely hand to hold"

--> The relationship ending isn't the end of the world. Everyone experiences this, and everything eventually ends. When something terrible like this happens (which feels like a nightmare), it's good to get some perspective and realize the world isn't coming to an end, they're just breaking up.

(Or maybe looking back he realizes that his sleeping around was really really stupid and ended up costing him what he loved the most.)

--> "And I'm not sure if I can get it. I guess it's time for me to grow a conscience" = This probably means that he realizes that if he doesn't understand this, he needs to grow a conscience, because it's clear what tore them apart, and it's clear it's all his fault

--> "To combat the lapse that explains why all of this simply collapsed" = the lapse either being his cheating or his getting caught. Either way it makes sense.
