On Directing Lyrics
you're directing me,
your eyes focus like a microscope
get the cuts you need,
eyes focus like a microscope
go steady with me?
I know it turns you off when I
I get talking like a teen
I get talking like a teen
you're directing me
you're dressed up, I lose my grip, my focus
make those eyes at me
I lose my grip, I lose my focus
go steady with me?
I know it turns you off when I
I get talking like a teen
I get talking like a teen
go steady with me?
I know it turns you off when I
I get talking like a teen
I get talking like a teen
(hold on to me)

New to this site. How do you fix the submitted lyrics? This is what I have:
You're directing me. Your eyes focused like a microscope. Get the cuts you need. Eyes focused like a micro-scope.
Go steady with me. I know it turns you off when I I get talking like a team. I get talking like a team.
You're directing me. You're dressed up. I lose my grip, my focus. Make those eyes at me. I lose my grip, I lose my focus.

you can't, only the original poster can, which is really stupid.

anyways, these are wrong. it's "talking like a teen" because "go steady" is something you say in a teenage relationship.

i dont know srsizzy -- i think it still may be "team." i thought it was teen too from listening to the youtube videos, but i heard the album version and i thought i caught the M ending instead of N. which after thinking about it, it makes sense because it seems this song is about getting pushed around in a relationship. this other person is directing all her moves, just worried about getting what they need.. so here's the main character asking the other to be patient, go steady, i know you don't like when i have input --...

i'm pretty sure it's teen. every single person i know has been quoting it "i know it turns you off when i get talking like a teen...go steady with me."

it makes complete sense. team...doesn't? no offense. they're 29. talking like a teen like "go steady with me?" and anyways. t&s always include the lyrics. that's their main thing anyways.

i think she's definitely singing "talking like a teen", not team. i vote for those lyrics!

teen makes more sense in accordance to the song, plus i like it better and i don't think sara would sing about talking like a team. it doesn't really make sense and it's not in the vein of the album, or their music.

that does sort of make sense, but I'm also listening to the album version, I still hear "teen." listen to it louder? I definitely hear "n," pretty distinctly.

yeah I feel like she says "teen" pretty clearly =P

it sounds like:
go steady with me I know it tipped(ticked? turns?) you off when I I get talking like a teen i get talking like a teen
but thats just what i got from it :/
yeah I was actually thinking that or something similar..but then sometimes it sounds different xD but maybe I'll just put that up, it sounds the most possible..

i don't know why but i've never interpreted "go steady with me" in the way most everyone else seems to have, as in that way teenager's refer to "going steady," or being in relationships. i always saw it as sara, or whoever the character may be, sort of just asking the other person to maybe give them a little break, be gentle, take it easy on them, so to speak. i realize that the word structure fits better, and the predominant view does make more sense, but i still hear it the way i hear it, and it seems to have more levels of meaning for me this way.
I like that interpretation a lot. I think most people correlate it with relationship steady because of the "talking like a teen" part, but the way Sara sings it doesn't seem to suggest that.

Sara explains it pretty well all here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Idg6cwyRIwI "Go steady with me" is thus not the teen way of proposing someone but the preferred, 18th century one ;) I think it is so cute.
I apologize that these aren't perfected yet, I'm just going from the Rifflandia concert recordings on YouTube, but I think they're close at least! Any input at all is very much appreciated as I'm not 100% on any of the lyrics yet, but we can work on them until the CD comes out =)
I'd particularly appreciate if someone could figure out that line where I had to put all the question marks xD
also, it's questionable whether the line is "tipped" or "ticked", I figured that I wouldn't be able to figure that out for sure until I get the line after.
i don't know if it makes much sense, but i think that verse is:
go steady with me i know it turns you off when i i can't tuck in my teeth i can't tuck in my teeth
I'm not sure about that..I'm pretty sure I hear her saying talking, especially when tegan repeats it

It almost sounds like either "I get taken by the teeth." or "I get taken by tease."

It's definitely 'I get talking like a teen'. :|

Im pretty sure the parts switch between: "I know it ticks you off when I" and "I know it turns you off when I"
But anyway, this song is incredible. I cant wait for oct 27!
sorry it took me awhile to fix my lyrics, guys, I was a bit late to learn that it was online early. I think I've got it covered =)
I guess it's just about relationships, how the other person has the chance to either break you down or take you as you are and I always thought that the song was a cute way of saying that don't mess around with me, probably because of the "go steady with me" and "hold on to me" parts. I've also been wondering that are the words related to actual film directing in the song by accident. I guess not but you can find at least "I lose my grip, I lose my focus" and "Get the cuts you need" from the song that are terms of film making also...
