Hopeless

I really think this song is about fighting your sins and trying to correct. Admitting your sins, in other words. "Hopeless I'm falling down Hopeless I can't wake up"

You're hopeless because you're trying to find your way back to doing good, but you can't get your mind to work the way you want.

"Here I lie forever Sorrow still remains Will the water pull me down And wash it all away"

He can't figure out what is right and get rid of his sins, so he just wants to die and get it over with.

"I can hear the devil call my name"

He's admitting to his sins and showing that the devil goes after everyone, including him. This effaces a suggestive meaning for the song. It doesn't make you a bad person if the devil is calling for you. Everyone has sins, just it's still not good if you can hear him.

But, yeah. I think this song was really made by Ben to admit to his wrongs and show he's trying to do better. Something like that, I'm not really good with words. XD But, hope you know what I mean.

whenever I hear this song it makes me think of someone who gets caught in the undertow, trying to fight their way back to the surface; they become disoriented, begin panicking, and cannot prevent themselves from drowning. as they are drowning their life flashes before their eyes, possibly a life of depression and mistakes; and drowning does take awhile so the length of the song is all right for this scenario.

I think the song is about someone who is feeling like everything they do dont matter or everything they do never turns out the way they want it too and anyone who has ever felt this way always gets that hopeless feeling like it dont matter how hard you try it never seems to be good enough. The song is kind of a inspirational song also because it says He cant hold on and even tho things never go his way he wont just give up as it says.

ahh this song is great. im absolutely IN LOVE. with his scream. mannnnn. i wish he would scream more!

and id say. maybe its about a battle with depression. feeling hopeless and filthy.

i like this album more then any other actually. the quiet mixed with the scream, its good. the scream is good.. not the best, but he does well for saying only a couple words ;)

Honestly it weirds me out that no one has mentioned thus far that Jasen Rauch from the band RED wrote 4 songs on this album. This was one of them, and they all have a religious feel due to the fact that while they are mainstream rockers, RED is a christian band and show that in their lyrics. It shone through on this album in the song "Without You" the most but you can see a desperation in this song to. Just thought I'd bring that up...

well i thing this songs meaning is pretty obious its about some one that feel really down and can't find the strength to go on but is still trying to move forward. after hearing dear agony i think that the album is about suffering not in an emo kind of way but just dealing with suffering.

To me, this is a song about addiction and the feelings that follow. The chorus is what the devil softly whispers in your ear, although you scream it at yourself. This is such an amazing song.
