One Foot Boy Lyrics
Really sweet melody. Contradicts with the lyrics, which is always nice. Reminds of Relax Take It Easy
it is "one foot boy, eleven stone" stones are the british measurement for weight. 11 stone equals 154 pounds. in the art booklet that comes with the cd, there is a newspaper with a personal ad that reads "1ft tall boy seeks sensitive partner with a comfortable shoulder. Short but makes up for it in droves. Full of life and big appetite." which I think implies they are overweight, 1 foot tall and 11 stone/154 pounds would definitely be obese. but obviously it has another deeper meaning, which I can't seem to figure out at the moment. maybe it just means all his problems seem to weigh that heavily on his shoulders.
I think One Foot Boy refers to his conscience, the fact that it weights 11 stones(154 pounds) means that lately, his conscience has beeing weighing him down.
The first verse shows that he doesn't need the boy's opinion on his affairs. He knows he's done something wrong, but he just doesn't want to hear it.
The next verses just show that he's kind of losing his mind and regretting pushing him out of "his shoulder" (like the angel and devil in your shoulder). (The boy = angel). And he's crazy and he's going to "shoot somebody" because he has lost his conscience. He's going insane, but at the same time he regrets throwing him away. WHich is why he says "Get lost" but he also says "rescue me". The whole "I'm happy on my own" is him trying to convince himself that he doesn't need that boy.
It sounds to me like "There's a one foot boy in every story sittin' on my shoulder" instead of eleven stone.
I'm pretty sure it's eleven stone, though it is a confusing line. A stone is a measurement for weight in England which is equal to fourteen pounds, which would mean that this small boy is 154 pounds. The way I think of it is that the 'one foot boy' is his conscience, kind of like the angel-devil scenarios. His conscience(or decision or what have you) is weighing on him like a heavy burden, which would explain the 'eleven stone' part.

Oh, I dunno, I just hear an "y" sound at the end of that line. I'm not sure what he actually says, but that's how I hear it. Maybe at his concert I'll be able to tell for sure hah

Yeah, I watched his mouth and you all were right -- it's stone

i love this song sooooo much. its been on repeat for a day. its so cute sounding and catchy. about his conscience, right?
Sing nothing on your microphone --> I'll say nothing on a microphone Tell you straight take me home / dinners ready take me home --> untill you swear to take me home.
I think one foot boy is that greedy part of him ,who want to be with superficial people, people who love cloth and glamour stuff, who like to go to luxurious places (empty loving)(all these color that surround me),these kind of people will not accept as you are, they'll try to change you ,and he wants to leave them "friends" ,and get rid of that part of him ,because when he's not with them he becomes himself and that made him happy (I'm happy on my own),he’s confused ,is he crazy for wanting to leave them or he was crazy form the beginning for wanting them. this album is about his teenage years. when he got rid of that part of him ,he became free he became himself a songwritter and a singer (I’ll say nothing on your microphone).
One Foot Boy is a whimsical song about a dualistic metaphor taking place in his life.
The one foot eleven stone boy is his growing sexual identity of which he hasn't fully integrated into his life and has begun to weigh down upon him. Instead of having both feet on the ground to keep him stable (sane), he's only got one. Or simply put: homosexual puberty.
Another visual hint besides the booklet advert is the cover itself. The only One foot (tall, not single footed) obese boy would be the clown poster on the wall. Maybe a view of how "silly" or "trite" it all seemed now that he looks back on it? Or that he is to become a media clown/entertainer?
Meanwhile, the advert in the newspaper is more like a "calling" of who he is to become from himself in the future. Thus the microphone metaphor gets thrown in, and whether he can fulfill his true "gift" or "talent". Kind of like asking himself, "should I sing about this, or is it just too simple and no one will care?" But he can't, yet...
Thus, he's lacking "both feet on the ground". Making him a one foot boy. He's not referring to someone else. Nor a "character". Dr. John was similar in the sense that Dr. John was a bottle of Jack Daniels. Again, he's using a metaphor of his own conscious trying to grapple with whom he is becoming. Yet he still feels very small, using the height metaphor of only being one foot tall.
But he's not quite there yet... making him only a one footed -BOY-. Not a -MAN- with "both of his feet on the ground". Wishing this duality would leave him be, or "happy on his own". Thus, never having to confront himself and accept who he is becoming (or growing up to be). Again, the clown visual appeals to the child, not the adult.
My oh my. What to do... The strife of a media clown and the pain of puberty.
This song is about how everyone around him thinks there in love, but it's just silly love, and they should stop fooling around already and go find their life partner. Compare to Lover Boy, but it's more subtle.
