I'm Yours Tonight

Okay, here goes: I think this is a song about his daughter. Here's why:

"Forever alone Until I found you Now you're always there" sounds like he's been by himself, but now has someone to care for.

"Voice on the air Scent on my clothes" Her cries, maybe? And that new baby smell? Like baby powder?

"Oh, but when the sun Exposes all my demons Will you stay, or run away?" I believe that this part is about him being afraid of her not liking him or being afraid of him when she grows up.

"I'll help you find your way Every moment you're awake You know I'll stay Even in your dreams" He's saying that he will always be there for her and that he'll help her through life.

"I'll pull the stars down from the heavens To fill your empty skies" Since she's new, he might be saying that he'll fill her life with good experiences and all of his attention.

"I'm yours tonight I'm yours tonight" Obvious :)

"Whenever you go They say I'm bad news When everyone agrees" He thinks that people are afraid of him or disgusted with him.

"Whispers start sounding like screams" He doesn't want to scare her either, but is afraid he will hurt her.

"Oh, but I know what you want To say before the words escape your teeth Will you trust in me?" He hopes that she wants him in her life and that she will trust him.

"My good intentions Can leave the hardest hearts The harshest scars you've ever seen My bad impressions They will follow me Makin' enemies that I can't see" He's saying that he's done things he's not proud of in his life, but he doesn't want her to know.

"Forever alone Till I found you I know that you'll stay You won't run away" He's beginning to realize that she's his daughter and will always love him.

Then the chorus, same as before.

My description is very corny, I know, but it's such a sweet song, and I love it. Also supporting my theory are the chimes and piano in the background, almost making it sound like a lullaby.

I don't know. Just my thoughts. Anyone else think so?

this is refreshing after fast times at barrington high.

I believe this song is about how William obviously has had many girls, and that he sees how that might scare this girl off that the song is written to. When she discovers his past, will she stay with him, trust in him? Sometimes when people start talking, it's hard to defend your decisions.

It's not that he wants to be a player, he has good intentions, but even though girls are left with broken hearts. This follows him, cos people often dislike you if you've had many partners. That's how it is with him. But so he continues to explain that he was alone until he found her. It wasn't love with the other girls, this time it is different. He promises to "help you find your way every moment you're awake", and that's one hell of a big promise.

He's serious this time, and hopes that she'll see how him having had a lot of partners has nothing to do with his situation with her now.

Love the meaning. I think it's very true.

i agree with klgbeatnik, this song is definately a relief after fast times at barrington high.. they almost started to sound generic, it worried me. but i knew william would come up with something to grab our hearts once again. =] this is a great song. but there is one part bothering me that i cant figure out. there is a background part... The harshest scars you've ever seen [**] .... Makin' enemies that I can't see [**] anyone know what goes right there? thanks.

This song is so beautiful and catchy. I agree with Wealllovethem MCR; I think it's about the mistakes he's made in the past and now he's found the one and he's asking her to trust him despite his past.
