Don't Hold Your Breath

Another great song that the TV show "Ugly Betty" introduced me to.

Anyway, the song is about a guy who's saying to a girl that he'll be everything she needs or wants him to be for her and vice versa.

For me the song is about saying goodbye to each other. You COULD be the greatest thing that has happened to me, though I don't know you now (like I used to). I can exactly relate this song to the friend of mine, Mister V. Only my sky lights up every September because that was the month we split up a few years ago. I used to think he would come back one September saying 'I needed this year/2 years/3 years to realize that we need to get back together'. Somehow I was sure he needed an exact amount of years and would definitely come back in September. But now I tell myself: Don't hold your breath = don't wait for wonders...

I think it's more about being in a relationship for a long time, and then realizing that that person has changed("but I don't know you now"), and trying to figure out what to do. The solution comes as ending things ("dark throws me a lifeline").

"Don't hold your breath," I see applying in two ways: 1: Telling the person not to hold their breathe that another 'solution' will be made clear. 2: Telling yourself not to hold your breath for the other person to change back to who they once were, even though you miss that person "I'm blowing breath...").

Sorry guys but you're all off the mark it's about Joel Pott's wife when she was rushed into hospital and nearly miscaried (she was alright and the baby was fine) hence "And you could be the greatest thing that has happened to me, Though I don't know you now"
