Q&A
We's Been Waitin' Lyrics
don't waste my time
with those nickels and dimes
I want more for the song that i'm singing
i'll sell my rights
make a million over night
no, i won't punch a clock
'less it's ringing
we've waiting too long
for nothing to come
sure, you'll get a deal
you've got commercial appeal
but what you get is never what you give
so smile, smile like you mean it
'cause you got no say
just do what gets you paid
we've waited too long
for nothing to come
you'll get what you want in time
just sign on the dotted line
and hold onto the coattails
and pray that your record sells
until i get what i want
i'll be kicking
i'll be screaming
we've waited too long
for nothing to come
with those nickels and dimes
I want more for the song that i'm singing
i'll sell my rights
make a million over night
no, i won't punch a clock
'less it's ringing
for nothing to come
you've got commercial appeal
but what you get is never what you give
so smile, smile like you mean it
'cause you got no say
just do what gets you paid
for nothing to come
just sign on the dotted line
and hold onto the coattails
and pray that your record sells
until i get what i want
i'll be kicking
i'll be screaming
for nothing to come

I love this song and how different it sounds from the rest of the ATAL catalogue. I think it would be a great theme song/ending credits song for True Blood. Its got a great southern feel for a NY band.
Anyway this one's pretty self explainatory, maybe autobiographical for this amazing yet still fairly unknown band. Which would we (their fans) prefer, them to get commercial appeal, get famous so everyone knows them or for them to stick to what keeps them who they are their originality, sound and style? I've been in a 7 year band and know how it feels to see baby-bands that have opened for you get huge contracts and deals. I'ev been there wondering if we've waited too long for nothing to come.
These guys are talented. They deserve much more success!
I don't hear "Smile, Smile like you mean it" at all, I always hear "So Smile, Fuck me" but that may just be Freudian.
Anyway, I think this song is about Killimanjaro, which is basically ATAL without Dan. The band knew that this would be their last album together, so to me it just sounds like Dan wishing them well, but my opinion may be biased by the fact that he's singing the song.
I just like this song. Does not need explanation. :)
Heh. I just facebooked everyone's comments. You all commented on ATAL +1.
