Highland's Apparition Lyrics

See it, startled
Afternoon I had to ask
Or dare I, ever know
Tell us, we are demented
Watch as attention span
Hold, so fast
Then goes up in smoke

I don't think you're nervous enough
It happened to show its own face
Search for the soulless ends
Now point him towards rest

Culprits, shudder
Apparitions left in time
If we're honest, sight unknown
Crowing, frozen, bedroom
Awoke up certain
Lays a tomb, her tree holds it
Unbeknownst, still sending chills

I don't think you're nervous enough
It happened to show its own face
Search for the soulless ends
Now point him towards rest

You won't find me curling up
A place that should make sense
Well, excuse me for this better judgment
Night is so worth waiting for
A blinding scare so cauterizing
Arms out pointing, sit and stare
At this proof, this living proof
This proof, this living proof

Sun's up, braver
Hands and legs untouched
Before we forget, save this
Unaging proof

I don't think you're nervous enough
It happened to show its own face
Search for the soulless ends
Now point him towards

I don't think you're nervous enough
It happened to show its own face
Search for the soulless ends
Now point him towards rest

this song is actually about a sort of haunting they had in the first house they bought together. The house was on highland st. hence the name of the song.

Awoke up certain lays a tomb Her tree holds it Unbeknownst still sending chills

the body of the previous owners father was buried under a tree in there yard. the line " Unbeknownst still sending chills" refers to how each of them felt like they were being touched while they were sleeping, giving them the chills. they were in an interview thing on Octane, where they explained their album

Yea, frodriguez is correct. I live in Virginia, and the band did a 45 minute interview with Elliot in the Morning and they explained the song as pertaining to a house they lived in. Sam and Pete were working drywall at the time in Chicago, and had parties often. They said when friends would stay at the house after a party, they'd wake up and explain the same nightmares they had that other friends had who had stayed in the house, too. Pete said they knew about the hauntings but never told their friends, which is hilarious. They explained that sometimes it'd look like people were walking into the rooms they were sleeping in, and often felt chills and being touched in the house, commonly at night. Pete also said that one day a woman was dancing in the front lawn and he asked "Can I help you?" The woman smiled, asked to come into the house because she used to live there and said her father and cat were buried under the tree in the back yard... They didn't let her in. Anyways, everything I explained comes right from the interview and you can see it in the lyrics.

Song Meaning

Chevelle does this a lot. I am originally from CHicago and had an opportunity to actually meet them before. I've heard them tell different stories about the same song in different interviews. Pete has said he doesn't like to reveal what they actually wrote the song about, because it takes away from the listening experience and the listener's ability to use the song for how it can help them. That being said, I think in some instances they do reveal the true origins of their songs, and sometimes I think they just mess with all of us make stuff up....

@mpulley Darn, wish I tuned into Elliot at that time!

This song rules, it's tied for my favorite off the new album. The song sounds like how you have to get through be nervous to do things, but still be nervous to be normal. IDK, maybe?

Yeah, like you're already to do something. Idk lol. Like you see something new that you've never experienced before And you're not even nervous when you're looking at it in the face You're just brave without fear or that fear of not understanding. You're just ready without the butterflies. Ex: Like your first day of school lol, everyone's usually nervous but maybe there's always that one kid who's just ready or something.

Lol, aside from that, I'm positive on every lyric I typed except for the word in the end of the chorus "Now pointing [towards]" and the words in the breakdown, "[I'm still pointing], sit and stare". The words in the brackets are the ones I'm uncertain of.

the line says "night is so worth waiting for" not "so acquainting for"

yea i like what u guys r saying but its for sure abt an ufo no dout abt it but thanks for positing it chicken nugget dude

and the cds title ya kno kinda self explanitory but yea cool u guys have ur own appenion lol and srry i sux at spelling

it definitely says "search for the soulless ends now point em' toward rest" that makes sence right?

Except for the second to last verse it only says towards then in the last one it says toward rest again

Can't have a bad trip with pot really, so maybe acid or something if it was about a drug. However, I think the UFO meaning is better. After re-reading the lyrics thinking about UFO's, it sounds like it could be about an alien encounter.

lol i know this is an old response here but...

Considering that they are christians in a band, christian kinda have this thing where aliens are what? Extraterrestrials right? well that means not of this earth. Knowing that chevelle has hidden messages in their songs, the ufo/alien/ET could be what christians like to joke around and say, that demons and angels are extra terrestrials. Not of this earth. Trying to think like a christian here to see if that would fit, and it's pretty good. Because in the bible it talks about numerous occasions of angels, and demons...
