In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I can see right through you
Now tell me does that sound familiar?
Now that I got your attention
I just wanted to say
I am so flattered that you mention my name
You've been paying my bills for way too long
And I'm so happy that you just can't stop talking shit
Keep running your mouth
I keep cashing checks
Snapping necks
So keep running your mouth
I keep them shook crews running
Like they supposed to
You come around but you never come close to
I can see it inside your face
You're in the wrong place
I implore you to comprehend
I'm more machine now than man
You're so vain
I bet you think this song is about you
Don't you
So much for plagiarism
So much for you to waste your breath running your mouth
A rat race to the top
Sore losers never satisfied with what they've got
Your career is flipping
So do me a favor
The next time you see her
Ask your girl what my dick tastes like
Yo
What
Now tell me does that sound familiar?
Now that I got your attention
I just wanted to say
I am so flattered that you mention my name
You've been paying my bills for way too long
And I'm so happy that you just can't stop talking shit
Keep running your mouth
I keep cashing checks
Snapping necks

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
you know whats funny is that emmure directly quotes the acacia strain. tas never did that they denyed till this song came out that skynet had any meaning agianst this band. tas doesnt give a shit they really dont. i love tas i hate emmure. i hate bands that rip off other bands and in the "hype" every little 15 year old love emmure cuz there in and hip. rap should never go with the core and this band tried but fails horribly. i just think its funny how everyone picks a side like football teams remember tas doesnt give a shit emmure or "50 cent" "emminem" whatever you call them does, sense they directly quoted one of there songs the acacia strain that is. just remember who writes better lyrics emmure writes about sucking dick. the acacia strains new one is a theme album about the end of the world.
if you hate emmure so much, why are you looking up their lyrics?
OHHH the end of the world. who fuckin gives a shit about the end of the world. same gay boring lyrics as every other band who likes to bullshit about politics and the end of the world.. fuckin figure it out its boring shit and no one wants to hear it. at least with emmure we have something to look forward to lyric wise some funny shit. other then hearing about how this band thinks the world is gunna end... WHO FUCKIN CARES
HE MEANS TO QUOTE THEM IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS SINCE HE SAYS "DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?!"
@ ilovemylifeeeeee
are you fucking kidding me?
every fucking faggot ass band writes about girls, the same shit is repeated over and over. not only the lyrics but the music too. Emmure's breakdowns all sound the same, and they are all in 4/4. At least TAS is diverse and has a sense of musical knowledge. Contient is a summation of hatred and drestroying the world and creating your your own (Vincent's) continent. It had a legit theme. Not just random moaning about "she broke my heart". Emmure is complete garbage. No talent, I can play any instrument for that band. And I would gladly own the shit out of frankie on his pussy ass, whiney vocals. your a fag.
Hey hairyballsack,

Get a fucking life other than bitching at people for having their own opinion you fucking cocksucker. TAS isn't talented at all either! Both bands are tuned in drop A sharp and both play nothing but breakdowns get over yourself! You're an annoying fuck who acts like he knows everything about music. TAS sucks Emmure's OKAY! You're entitled to your opinion but you shouldn't bash everyone that states theirs you fucking prick.
Lol, UOTDWP obviously doesn't know shit about playing music.
If he did he would see that Acacia has some pretty sick ass riffs and aren't just breakdowns.

Good try anyway. =)
DeathMetalDouchebag (death metal sucks btw)

Acacia's guitar stuff and drums are weak compared to actual talented bands.... Parkway Drive, Between The Buried And Me, Oh Sleeper, August Burns Red just to name a few.

I Love how the only people that say I don't know anything about music are the people who sweat the acacia strains balls. I bought Continent and it was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent.
you can't judge The Acacia Strain by "Continent"...it's not even close to their best work. listen to "3750" or "The Dead Walk" if you want to formulate a real opinion on them. and both bands have talent, their low tuning has nothing to do with their skill or lyrics. TAS is just as talented as any BBM, ABR, or any other band...they're just heavier.

and as far as TAS vs. Emmure..I think TAS is better but Emmure is a decent band. I just think it's funny how much people bitch and cry over who's better when the bands aren't even comparable, aside from the fact that "A Ticket for the Paralyzer" rips the riff from "Carbomb."
