The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Lecrae's lyrics can go toe to toe with ANY secular rapper. This song has a great beat and the lyrics are on point. It's so true...a lot of what we take in is so destructive and fills our minds with false idols which we end up following. I can speak from personal experience, the things we take in through media DO have bearing on our actions.
A lot times people say, "it's just a song," or "it's just a movie," but those things get lodged in our mind and whether consciously or subconsciously we are influenced by them. Think about it, "Be a rebel let the Word of God lead ya, Satan uses media to tempt ya and deceive ya."
