Always safe to know, what is good for taking
Blood stains from your clothes
(Besides fire)
Like I said before
When I bite your tongue, out of your mouth, you'll know
(You'll know)

Just what am I supposed to say?
And tell you why I turned out this way?
Don't make me, don't make me

If you love it, then let it go
And how I thought you'll never know
Just don't blame me, don't blame me

You'll never make it alone
(It's easier to know)
You've always been on your own
(It's easier to know)

Nothing safe feels real
Waiting here to dodge, so open I reveal
(There's something)

Picking up my Brains
You can tell your mom that men are all the same
(The same)
Just what am I supposed to say?
And tell you why I turned out this way?
Don't make me, don't make me

If you love it, then let it go
And how I thought you'll never know
Just don't blame me, don't blame me

You'll never make it alone
(It's easier to know)
You've always been on your own
(It's easier to know)
You'll have to pay to watch me jump
That I love you more
You'll never make it alone
It's easier to go
It's easier to go

Nowhere to go, I'm not leaving
Not going, I'm not kissing you goodbye on my own
I'm nothing, just bleeding
I'm not kissing you goodbye

You'll never make it alone
(Let it go, I'm not leaving)
You've always been on your own
(Not going, I'm not kissing you goodbye)
You'll never make it alone
(On my own, I'm nothing, just bleeding)
You've always been on your own
(I'm not kissing you goodbye)

You'll never make it alone
(Let it go, I'm not leaving)
You've always been on your own
(Not going, I'm not kissing you goodbye)
You'll never make it alone
(On my own, I'm nothing, just bleeding)
You've always been on your own
(I'm not kissing you goodbye)

    These lyrics are extremely wrong.

Always safe to know what is good for taking blood stains from your clothes. Like I said before, when I bite your tongue out of your mouth, you'll know.

Just what am I supposed to say? And tell you why I turned out this way? Don't make me. Don't make me.

If you love it, then let it go. And how I died, you'll never know. Just don't blame me. Don't hate me.

You'll never make it alone. It's easier to go. You've always been on your own. It's easier to go.

Nothing safe feels real. Waiting here to die. Just hoping I reveal. There's something.

Picking up my brains. You can tell your mom that men are all the same.

You'll have to pay to watch me die. Then I'll love you more. You'll never make it alive. It's easier to go. It's easier to go.

Nowhere to go. I'm not leaving. I'm not going. I'm not kissing you good bye. On my own. I'm nothing. Just bleeding.

I absolutely love how they "sample" Kissing you goodbye in that raw form and slightly changing the notes of it. Again, much like The Best of Me, this song relates to a bad break up and all the things that went wrong with it.

This is about a guy killing himself - shooting himself in the head specifically (ie. picking up my brains - because of some girl and all the while telling her that with him gone she's not going to make it own her own and she'll regret that he's gone. She's going to pay to watch him die.

This whole album Brett said is coming to terms with hating yourself. I can see that in every song so far on this album.

    • Sorry, had to fix it. My name is too long to read what I put.

I think this song is absolutely amazing, the way he includes the chorus from "kissing you goodbye" over lapped with the lyrics in this song. I also love the "epic" feel they've given this song as well, I think it's absolutely brilliant, with the static, and then they turn the static into a beat before it comes in. Fantastic ending track.

Lyrically, I think it speaks for it's self.

My favorite song off of Artwork :D I think it's absolutely beautiful and extremely powerful, the way that they sampled kissing you goodbye.

I have a slightly different interpretation, however.

To me, it's about a guy who's either depressed, or bipolar, or has some sort of mental disorder. And he and a girl are completely in love. But, he can feel himself changing, or spiralling deeper into his depression. But, he can't explain to her why he's suddenly depressed and distant, which upsets her. So, he leaves her, thinking that she'll be better off without him. And then, he realizes too late that that was a stupid idea, but she's gone. So, he kills himself because he's miserable without her but he wants her to move on.

I have kind of a different interpretation as well...

So this guy is with this girl. But he is terribly depressed and can't support her. Hence, even though they're together, she's always been on her own, and she'll never make it that way... it's better for her to go, and move on.

He's trying to tell her that he's done and can't take it anymore. That she should forget about him, so that she won't be hurt by his suicide...

The only thing that doesn't really fir is the "You'll have to pay" section. I kind of got the impression that he was telling her he'd kill her too if she didn't leave-- as in, "everyone in here is going to die, so you better leave." Perhaps he has resentment toward her for some reason.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
