Open Up Your Eyes Lyrics
A single rose left to remember
As a single tear falls from her eye
Another cold day in December
A year from the day she said goodbye
Seems it's only been a moment
Since the angels took him from her arms
And she was left there holding on to their tomorrow
But as they laid him in the ground
Her heart would sing without a sound
For the first time you can open your eyes
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life
Just open up your eyes
A single lifetime lays behind her
As she draws her final breath
Just beyond the door, he'll find her
Taking her hand, she softly says
For the first time you can open your eyes
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life
Just open up your eyes as I lay you down tonight
Safe on the other side, no more tears to cry
For the first time you can open your eyes
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life
As a single tear falls from her eye
Another cold day in December
A year from the day she said goodbye
Since the angels took him from her arms
And she was left there holding on to their tomorrow
But as they laid him in the ground
Her heart would sing without a sound
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life
Just open up your eyes
As she draws her final breath
Just beyond the door, he'll find her
Taking her hand, she softly says
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life
Safe on the other side, no more tears to cry
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find
Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life

I think this song is about a woman who lost someone she loved who was probably ill for a long time. A husband probably. And now even though she misses him, she can finally live her life without having to care for him and deal with the pain in seeing him suffer
i agree with charlie82 but it kinda seems like she died too because it says "Just beyond the door, he'll find her Taking her hand, she softly says" like the doors of heaven
to me the first verse is about the woman realizing that the person who died has really only started a new adventure. they have gone to a place where "no one knows the pain you left behind" and where they can find the peace they never had in life.
in the second verse, the woman has grown old and died, the person who died early is waiting for her on the other side to show her their new world.
I love this song because it can be very healing to someone who has lost someone. He left it vague to whether or not it was a girlfriend, wife, or even a mother left behind. So the relationship could have been romantic, friendship or parent/child. Very powerful.
