White Washed Lyrics
Push your controlling values aside, and dissect your own life
It's not about my beliefs.
It's about personal choice
It breaks your heart to see me consume,
But it shatters mine to see people follow you
Ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
But who are you to decide whats right?
Don't say another word
You've crossed the line
Lets go,
I wont hesitate to put you in your place.
You are the straw thats crushing my back.
You ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
but who are you to decide whats right?
Dont say another word
However, I thank you for this pen and ink ammunition
Thank you for the inspiration
You're the straw that's crushing my back
You are the salt that's burning my wounds
It's not about my beliefs.
It's about personal choice
It breaks your heart to see me consume,
But it shatters mine to see people follow you
Ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
But who are you to decide whats right?
Don't say another word
You've crossed the line
Lets go,
I wont hesitate to put you in your place.
You are the straw thats crushing my back.
You ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
but who are you to decide whats right?
Dont say another word
However, I thank you for this pen and ink ammunition
Thank you for the inspiration
You're the straw that's crushing my back
You are the salt that's burning my wounds

I think this song is a rant against legalistic Christianity that tries to dictate what's right and wrong about your actions and fails to look at a person's heart. The Pharisees in the Bible were legalists and Jesus referred to them as whitewashed tombs. Pretty on the outside, but decaying on the inside.
Also, I think the line "It breaks your heart to see me consume" is referring to those who condemn the band because they drink. Just a few thoughts. :) Awesome song tho!
Amazing interpretation man.

I dont see why anyone would be upset that they drink. They're not A7x. they dont get smashed in public and make fools of themselves. They aren't drunks. And it bothers me that people judge them for being a Christian band that drinks. Anymore, it's as if you have to be perfect if you claim to be a Christian. Being a Christian doesn't mean being Jesus, it means trying everyday to be more like Him. But none of us can ever be just like Him. We'll never be perfect.

i think its about others being prejudice and they don't even try to look at thier own flaws.
HOWEVER! I THANK YOU! FOR THIS PEN AND INK! AMMUNITION! THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATION!
Because of the line "It breaks your heart to see me consume" I think it is about the protagonist having a drug habit. They don't wanna be talked out of it. The person trying to talk them out of consuming seems to have a following or be part of one. So maybe they are in a sect and have a personal relationship with the protagonist. In the protagonist's opinion the sect is more dangerous than drugs: "It shatters mine to see people follow you." Because of the title "white washed", I interpret, that is is a white supremacist sect and may actually be more dangerous than drug consumption. Because the consumption is only mentioned in one sentence, it may be something relative harmless, like moderate amounts of alcohol and weed. At least it is seen as harmless by the protagonist. Consumption may also refer to sex or other relatively harmless practices.
My personal favorite song on the album. Amazing.
It reminds me of the movie' Expelled'. I never saw it, but my dad told me about it awhile ago. He said it's about how atheists just ignore everything that's related to creationism.
Great song though.
hahah you dickhead its called evolution i think its a little more credible than 'god created everything' you stupid christian fuck. why are they all so ignorant?

way to give atheists a bad name parkwayy. sure it makes more sense, but to be honest, if it makes someone feel better to think that there is an all seeing all controlling being somewhere (in their head, preferably...please no more impositions), then so be it.

No, they don't ignore everything about creationism, they ignore everything about God. Richard Dawkins even said that is was possible that aliens started life on this earth. He would believe in freakin' aliens before a God. That's what gives atheists a bad name. And by the way, evolution makes about as much sense as me saying that I left a loaf of bread laying on my kitchen counter for a couple of years and it exploded and a monkey jumped out of the smoke. It's way easier to accept the fact that an almighty god created everything perfectly in 6 days.

I don't believe it's aimed at anyone in particular. It reminds of when Jesus confronts the Pharisees in the temple, and calls them "whitewashed tombs". They look good on the outside, but inside they are dry and dusty bones. Following along that it could be about church leaders, pastors etc. They say things like "God hates Gays/Jews/Soldiers etc,". These people look good, but they are actually leading others astray.
