Crusades Lyrics

I used to be so young and invincible.
The mistakes of my youth
are finally catching up to me.
The face that stares back in the mirror
should carry nothing but pride.

As the days go by
it's getting harder to hold my head up high.

I've never been so tired.
I've never felt so weak, but I swear to you,
I swear to you that I'm not giving up.
Never been so tired. Never felt so weak.
My storied life is coming to a graceful descent, descend.

I've seen peace end, and battles begin.
I've seen peace end, and battles begin.

Go!

I won't forget the lives I've touched.
I won't forget the ones I've loved.

As the days go by
it's getting harder to hold my head up high.
As the days go by
it's getting harder to hold my head up high.

I used to think I'd last forever.
I used to think I'd last forever.
I used to think I'd last forever.
I used to think I'd last forever.
Forever.

Now I'm praying for the light to just carry me away.
I'm praying for the light to just carry me away
Say goodnight.
Say goodnight.
Say goodbye.
Say goodbye.
This is my time to be with my Lord.

Awesome song, I seem to be listening to Constellations a lot lately.. Anywho, here are what I think are the proper lyrics, just a few changes here and there :)

I used to be so young and invincible. The mistakes of my youth are finally catching up to me. The face that stares back in the mirror should carry nothing but pride.

As the days go by its getting harder to hold my head up high.

Ive never been so tired. Ive never felt so weak, but I swear to you, I swear to you that Im not giving up. Never been so tired. Never felt so weak. My storied life is coming to a graceful descend, descend.

Ive seen peace end, and battles begin. Ive seen peace end, and battles begin.

Go!

I wont forget the lives Ive touched. I wont forget the ones Ive loved.

As the days go by its getting harder to hold my head up high. As the days go by its getting harder to hold my head up high.

I used to think Id last forever. I used to think Id last forever. I used to think Id last forever. I used to think Id last forever. Forever.

Now Im praying for the light to just carry me away. Im praying for the light to just carry me away Say goodnight. Say goodnight. Say goodbye. Say goodbye. This is my time to be with my Lord.

The song title is Crusades, not Crusader

i think this song is about regretting past actions. wishing we could go back and change them.

Great song to end the album with, best part of the song is after when he says "I see your life is coming to a graceful descent" gets me soo amped :]]]

i beleive thejoysoflife is correct. but theres more to it. it seems as this person is getting older and close to passing on and looking back on his life and things hes done.

at the end: "say goodbye this is my time to be with my Lord"

hes finally passing into the "light" which is mentioned a few lines before.

jmo. feel free to comment or criticize. im not the best at analyzing songs

oh and great way to end an album. ABR really knows how to put togethro endings. Redemption was a better ending overall, but this was a good track to finish with.

ABR=Life

I always like to look at ABR's songs with a different angle. Because JB writes the songs with a Christian base, I feel this song is no different. The person being described in this song is being tormented by Satan because of the mistakes he/she has made in the past. I think it's easy to imagine this song describing an elderly person which is understandable but ABR uses imagery alot and it's apparent in "Crusades". Focus on these lines:

"As the days go by It's getting harder to hold my head up high

I used to think I'd last forever

Now I'm praying for the light to just carry me away"

When I read these lines I can't help but think of Paul when He wrote to the church of Philippi. Paul was enduring extreme persecution for his efforts of spreading the Gospel. When he was in jail, he was torn between two desires. He wanted to free from his persecution and be with the Lord Almighty in heaven but he also wanted to remain on earth as encouragement for all the believers. To add to that story, Paul completely put his entire faith in Christ and was submissive to His will for his life.

Is this song a reference to Paul's life or is it a story of someone in a similar situation? Just food for thought.
