So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Great song. Is this going to be the best album they've done since Countdown to Extinction?
I think the lyrics pretty much speak for themselves - They're about a torture device that was used in the Middle Ages, and that consists of a kind of iron helmet with a screw attached to the top of it placed on a pedestal on the ground. Criminals or war prisoners would place their heads inside the helmet, and their heads would slowly be compressed until they were completely crushed, either as an execution or to force a confession or secret from the prisoner.

I was reading a bit into a NWO conspiracy, which we have an idea Dave is familiar with. I was reading more so into Project blue beam and its doctrine of global enslavement. In project blue beam they mention that they would be putting anyone against the order of the one world govt under ground to be imprisoned. They would have new classes of prisoners and ones who are under healthier condition, will have their organs extracted for anyone who needs them on the surface, and then they would be kept alive by machines for the use of other organs. Some of the lyrics here can sort of relate, Subliminal possibly using the mid-evil device in placement of such torture devices. If Dave was to flat out preach the entire "plans" in conspiracy. I think he would be in trouble :P But not sure if that magnitude of enslavement is ideal. But U.N symbols are on the artwork of his album, and as something bad. U.N is were the elitist high powers are.
