Give Me The Meltdown Lyrics

Feelin' worn down like a piece of glass
Doesn't take too much to get yourself to feed your monkey
Tell some white lies
Make and swallow them
You don't see just how you got into this situation

(Refrain)
Late at night, late at night
You weep for something better than the secrets you keep me down
Just lay down, here, close to me
And tell me what you want from me

(Chorus)
And I said
Hey now, give me the meltdown
Take it out on me this time around
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around
Hey now, give me the meltdown
Take it out on me, don't let me down
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around

Wide awake now and your monkey's dead
You so perfect that you never really need nobody
Put your hands down
You're among your friends
You just take and take and take and take and take and take and

(Refrain)
Late at night, late at night
You weep but you're no better than the secrets you keep stay down
Just lay down, here, close to me
Pretend you'll never leave me

(Chorus)
And I said
Hey now, give me the meltdown
Take it out on me this time around
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around
Hey now, give me the meltdown
Take it out on me, don't let me down
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around

(Chorus)
Tell me what you want child
Give me the meltdown
Take it out on me this time around
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around
Hey now, give me the meltdown
Take it out on me, don't let me down
Oh no, it ain't over now
I can feel the world spin around, around, around

i like this one! I'm guessing the meltdown is like this girls breaking point...basically she just goes about her life pretending everything's fine and that she needs no one "You so perfect that you never really need nobody" but then all her secret problems come out to this one guy who is a good friend and just listens

I heard Rob say in an interview this song was about being able to take out your frustrations out. In his case, his wife and her autoimmune disease. That sometimes all he could do was just be there for her to vent to.

Not sure what the 'feed your monkey' or 'monkeys dead' lyrica are about though?

Someone please explain the "feed your monkey" and "Wide awake now and your monkey's dead" lyrics. I heard this over and over and i just cant think of anything.

It's just taking out your frustrations with the world. And he wants to be the object of that, instead of other things. Like maybe the person got angry and that left whatever monkey stands for to die, and later you feel bad about it and you lie about the cause. And everyday you feel more and more worn down. You lie cause it is easier than the truth sometimes, but then you think about what you did and you want something better than the lies. And he wants to help. But to change you have to realize you are only as good as the person you create with the lies.

i think "feed your monkey" is like "spanking the monkey". soon after sex, the singer's partner feeds them white lies that they're fine, but as soon as "the mood" is completely past(or after a brief rest and being kind of groggy-tired, then suddenly they're both "wide awake"), the singer notices their partner is hiding something that is bothering them. then the singer pulls them close and asks them to "lay it on me". their partner suddenly feels overwhelmed and the world is spinning out of control then they take up the singer's offer to vent, and they basically explode with everything that had built up. they give into their emotions and have a meltdown.

My Interpretation

the 'monkey' in the lyrics is a slang term, 'a monkey on your back'. a term that can mean an addiction of somekind. in the case of the song it's robs wifes personal affliction of an autoimmune disease. feeding the monkey is her succumbing to the effects of the disease.
