Hyunhye's Theme Lyrics
reading law at your desk
praying for your parents
they are so proud of this
you are working so hard
all alone at your desk
obligated to free them
labor concern as a good girl
you curse the night that is calling
labor in doubt as a good girl

love to diaspora
de life en le valley oh oh oh oh oh
you are working so hard
sitting still at your desk
pusan weighing upon you
fending off all distress
glitter for your parents
hoping in discount clothing

finding the slacks you will fit in
wearing the shoes that you'll look good in
overwhelmed at your desk
weeping for your parents
they are so proud of this
shining in ambition
all alone all alone all alone
praying for your parents
they are so proud of this
all alone at your desk
obligated to free them
you curse the night that is calling
labor in doubt as a good girl

Parents that force their child into law school, making it seem as if the only way that they will ever be proud of you, like it's your obligation as their child to succeed.
The song just gives me the feeling of being sick of it all, of being conflicted between pleasing your family and pleasing yourself. Of spending your whole life as their 'good girl'.
Asian families have been notorious for this; 'diaspora' implies that the family has moved from their country of origin to make a 'better future' for their child... which gets out of control.
A really beautiful song, though.
I see the "love to diaspora" line more as wanting to escape her culture because she feels trapped by it. A controversial line imo.

"pusan weighing upon you"
Pusan, now spelled Busan, is the second largest metropolis in South Korea.
It usually irritates me when people comment just to profess their love for the song but this song does so much to me, I love it so much. The lyrics are fairly easy to interpret but they're so incredible and fitting. love to diaspora de life en le valley oh oh oh oh oh !
And there's not even a recorded version yet. Words can't describe my anticipation for this album.
to me it sorta seems like its about having traditional asian parents and all the pressure that ensues. for one the name, hyunhye, makes me think of that. and the line obligated to free them. lots of asian parents except their children to take care of them when they are older. also they have SUPER high expectations for them in school and all that. thats what i think anyways
Also, I think Hyunhe Seo is Angela Seo who is now a member of Xiu Xiu and has been a good friend of Jamie's for awhile.
its possibly about A. Seo, but I think its about Kim Hyun Hee.
