in my opinion its basically a love song...

basically he'll protect her and give her a safe place to be, and he'll comfort her and help her move on from the past...

"i'll possess you but i don't need you to be another one of my possessions i don't need you to be my possession"

means basically he'll love her but not own her and not be over protective...

"and i won't make you kneel for anyone but me i won't promise a star don't promise your soul well say that we don't believe"

he'll accept her for who she is and won't make her believe in what he believes in... he may not be able to promis her the world... and they'll basically be devoted to each other in their own way

"i'll keep you wet when the world is dry you can see them coming i'll take you back inside if they came for answers, i'll wrap my claws round your mouth tight we'll consume each other until there's nothing left to hide and they can all drown in our blood"

again it seems like he'll support her and when people attack her for being her he'll defend her and protect her... and she doesnt have to explain anything to anyone cuz he understands who she is... basically fuck anyone that tries to get in the way of our "love"

i think it means we can't let our reputaions haunt ourselves and we have to move on and realize that the pst is the past....

Everything u say bout this track, to me, is perfect....it definatly a love song, and the part about "we'll consume each other until there's nothing left to hide and they can all drown in our blood" is exactly what you said....fuck everyone eles..he accepts her, or the love, who gives a fuck who doesnt...

Its a song about love borderline obsession, just by the way he actually sings it, though gritted teeth in a way, very passionate...sexual, one of my favourite tracks off this album. he is a lyrical genius...

i know that the lyrics are printed in the booklet as "smother the past in a cocoon, or me" but every time i hear it i swear he says "for" and not "or"- and "for" makes so much more sense to me in this song- this whole song is about having power and influence over someone else, so it would only make sense that the person smothers the past in a cocoon FOR HIM, not the past OR him- Manson in this song is the puppet master holding the strings, he can't be in a position where he could be smothered by the person he is controlling. the refrain about possession is a psychological possession of her, the ability to hold power and influence over her. like i said, i know it's printed in the booklet, but when i listen i hear "for". anyone else?

When he says, "i'll build you a shiny dollhouse or church", I think he means he will make something visually appeasing, but, all in all, fake. Then the rest of the song is about possessing that particular structure. They are both evil beings eternally haunting the house.

Wight--a supernatural being (a ghost in this case) Spider--has a negative connotation, therefore, they are evil supernatural beings

further, the next line is "and i'll help you move all the bodies"- "and" implies a previous condition, therefore if HE were smothered in a cocoon how would he be able to move the bodies of the past which he would then be a part of? he has to be excluded to be able to take that action upon that condition. i really think it is a typo.

Firstly, 'wight' comes from the old english word - 'wicht', which means a supernatural entity (pointed out earlier as a ghost in this case... no the people dancing behind cloths in arma-goddamn etc etc video is no coincidence)... but yeah.. ghost/shadowy remnant/poor reflection of former self. Basically reflected in the end of the song

Secondly, 'Wicht' translates in low german to 'girl'. Which is the other dimension of the song and throughout the whole album - the entrapment of relationships, the ability of women to lure and thn consume their partner... hence 'spider' and majority of the lyrics. if you think im wrong, check Mansons artwork, as he has a painting of a spider with a females head.

Basically, whilst it is about love/obsession and what not. In lamens terms, he is saying it is fake and the girl is just going to f*ck you over. Hence the first few lines 'ill build you a shiny dollhouse or church'... already said in the 2nd comment.

Other thing to note about the album is the concept of dichotomy. (the HIGH end of LOW, blue/good with the evil/red halo on the cover, lyrically in almost every song). 'ill keep you wet when the world is dry' 'possess you but i dont need you to be another one of my posessions'. He has said in intrviews the album is about finding his place/happiness after falling from grace/breakup - consistent with his lucifer comparisons in AS. He has also said all songs are in order of which they were written and express his emotional rollercoaster as a 'diary'. Compare the last lines of devour 'and ill love you if you wont make me stop' to the last lines of the album 'not letting you win wont satisfy me, ill teach you about loss'

i think when he says "we cant haunt this home, home anymore " he means he doesnt want to sit there and be haunted by all their old memories, and he starts saying no alot cus no matter what he does hes continuously haunted by them nd hes begging it to stop
