The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
As we need a 'Why'
And I'll the 'Who' for an
Apocalypse 'how'
If the world had one neck, my hands would be the 'where'
And I would choke all of you down
I would choke all of you down
I would choke all of you down
Give me a picket sign
And make it blank and white
Like all those stupid teenage girls
We are gonna to need them were we're going tonight
All you fuckers vote beep beep beep
In drunk karaoke cars
If it's too dumb to see, or say, you still sing it
I'll just cue the applause
Lets make sure the music is loud enough we won't even hear it end
Lets make sure the music is loud enough we won't even hear it end
Give me a picket sign
And make it blank and white
Like all those stupid teenage girls
We are gonna to need them were we're going tonight
I want to celebrate
I want to sell your hate
Today's the day you're gonna fucking die
I want to celebrate
I want to sell your hate
Your demons want to give you a proper goodbye
All you fuckers vote beep beep beep
In drunk karaoke cars
If it's too dumb to see, or say, you still sing it

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
definitly about teenage girls who are either using manson to pretend to be a rebel and be 'hardcore' but when he makes a song thats not load enough they drop him like hes nothing, there not paying attension to the lyrics or meaning, they just want some hardcore shit to make them seem like rockers or something.
"As if we need a "why" i'll be it " i think hes saying the world is messed up enough at this point, so much that he doesnt even have to talk about it, so why are all these 'rebels' begging for another antichrist superstar?
"Give me a picket sign, and make it blank and white, Like all those stupid teenager girls"
a picket sign, a stand against something, but if its blank and white and has no message, theres no point. hes saying these stupid teenager girls are rebeling/protesting against nothing. they have no message to send, they dont know wtf there doing.
"I want to celebrate, i want to sell your hate, today's the day you're gonna fucking die"
sorta speaks for itself, hes gonna celebrate there hate even though its sorta pointless and hes gonna sell there hate to, and maybe even kill them =)
"lets make sure the music is loud enough, we won't hear it end end end." referencing those stupid teenage girls who wont even listen to wtf manson has to say if the song isnt load enough, so he made THIS song sorta load so they can hear it and he can tell them FUCK YOU.
i think hes venting allot of anger he had built up cuz people hated him for doin eat me drink me cuz it was to soft. people need to just respect him as an artist before he kills all of us at the concert XD
I agree, my interpretation of the song was just the casual fans of manson who only listen to the singles, which are normally the worst. <br /> <br /> "lets make sure the music is loud enough,<br /> we won't hear it end end end."<br /> <br /> or just don't get him at all, and just qoute him in MSN names and stuff because it sounds cool <br /> <br /> "Give me a picket sign,<br /> and make it blank and white,<br /> Like all those stupid teenager girls <br /> <br />
This isn't just the teenage girls, it's for ANYONE who criticized his last album for being too soft or only listening to him for shock value.
I really disagree... <br /> "Give me a picket sign, <br /> and make it blank and white, <br /> (LIKE) all those stupid teenage girls, <br /> we are gonna need them where we're going tonight." <br /> <br /> I think he means groups of arrogant parents (or hicks) who hate him and rally up against him for their own pathetically intolerant veiws.<br /> <br /> "God is still dead but god is still white"<br /> Only backs up the hick theory even more.<br /> <br /> I doubt it's about any female teenagers. The young are always a bit more open minded, rather than their parents (who are used to enforcing rule) who often beleive they know what's best.<br /> <br />
