Oh My God Lyrics
The dishes in the sink
Don't care if I wake late
Or soak till the bath goes cold,
Leave the bed unmade
Cause when the drink goes in
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
The drink goes in
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
Oh my God
Oh my God
The plants in all the windows
Aren't listening for the door
Or counting all the footsteps
Keeping the bath warm
Cause when the drink goes in
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
The drink goes in
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
Oh my God
Oh my God
Oh you're gone
Oh you're gone
Oh you're gone
Oh my God
Oh my God
Oh my God
Oh my God
Don't care if I wake late
Or soak till the bath goes cold,
Leave the bed unmade
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
Oh my God
Aren't listening for the door
Or counting all the footsteps
Keeping the bath warm
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
The devil comes out
Days go by
Still the past don't seem so far
Oh my God
Oh you're gone
Oh you're gone
Oh my God
Oh my God
Oh my God

I adore this song like no other. it's basically after she's lost someone - it doesn't even have to be a lover. it could be a friend or relative or someone close. she's been lethargic and in that state of disbelief and shock where you don't fully understand it, and when she states, "Oh my God" it's her realization that that loved one really is gone for good ("Oh you're gone").
So true …Â this song never stops hurting no matter how many times you let it loop.

@chachalola Couldn't have said it better.

Whenever I listen to this song, I can't help but imagine finding a dead body in a bath tub. "...Keeping the bath warm..." Someone committed suicide... or had too much to drink and fell asleep in the bath.

Does anyone else here the riff for "The Strangers" in here?
Wow, I expected more comments on this one! This is probably my fav from the album.... her songs are not like anyone elses and they are so great and well written!
The narrator is numb from grief and drinking herself to death. Neglecting the daily maintenance of herself and her home. Comes to and sees the state of things and is horrified. Reminds me of "Hoarders" - often those people have had undergone a terrible loss and just stopped caring about the tasks of daily living, until the chaos becomes overwhelming.
My heart breaks every time I listen to this. So good. I wish she still did acoustic stuff sometimes...and didn't completely eschew the instrument now (she says she doesn't own a single acoustic out of the 20+/- guitars that she owns.... (?!?)).
To me, this song isn't about experiencing the death of a loved one, but of simply experiencing depression. She says that the dishes don't care if she wakes late, soaks in the bathtub for an unnecessary amount of time or that she leaves the bed unmade. She's simply saying that she feels lonely and unneeded. She says that, "when the drink goes in, the devil comes out. Day's go by, still the past don't seem so far." She is haunted by her past which the alcohol is causing her to think about. She eventually calls out to God in her loneliness (Oh, my God!) but feeling abandoned and hearing no reply, simply replies to herself, "Oh, you're gone..."
