Once you see the video, the meaning becomes a little clearer. While I myself am not religious, I can see how it can be referring to God or Jesus. But the video shows a Marine, a doctor and a firefighter so I think what they're trying to get at is that anyone can be a hero. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when the need arises, so I think they're talking about everyday people who step up to sacrifice themselves so that others can live.
very good song. i personally love it because i am not religious myself and their songs can be taken the God way or the relationship person/person kind of way. that is the way i take this song, he is mad at the world and wants somebody to come and save him, as rettemich said. i know they are christian and are talking about God, but i love skillet because they write their songs so you can take them so many different ways. can't wait for awake =D

I am going to add something to MusiChick's post. if you are a Christian, you are not religious. religion means earning the right to go to heaven. that's not the truth. God'd Son Jesus died so that we wouldn't have to pay the price and try to earn our way into heaven. just saying.

But there are people out there who choose to live a life helping others (a medic, a firefighter, a soldier), and as one of those people I didn't choose it because of some calling. I do it because it's the right thing to do and I'm an adrenaline junkie. If you can't understand how a person can be good without subscribing to the same things...

I agree with swallowthehurt. this song can be looked at from a Christian perspective and from a normal everyday person perspective. I think its about going through some stuff that you cant handle, you're not superhuman and cant do everything right. To me its feeling like you cant do it without someone to help you, a hero to save you. You want to fight and stand up for what you beileve in, whatever that may be, but you're afraid because you're just one person. But then you kind of come to realize that you've got a hero living in you, and then realizing that no matter what happens if you stand up, you'll always have the hero that saved you. Haha of course as a Christian the hero is obviously God.. to me at least.

Well I just realised that Korey did vocals on Comatose and Jen does vocals on Awake that explains the different sound. I personally think Jen sounds better.

the song Hero is easily one of my top 5 favoorite songs and i think that the song has to do with christianity and how every one needs a hero and that hero is God in this song. also the song says something that is very true and that is "a hero is not afraid to give his life" and that is very true because a true hero will put others before him/her self. overall this is a very powerful and meaningful song.

why does matthew 24:13 indicate different since it states that christ will do the saving during the end of time(judgment day)& not before then as him saying about the enduring to the end stuff?
