Draining Lyrics
You ask me to be strong again
Been waiting out here for a while
At least so we could be the end
But not likely
And it's draining
And it's draining
You see my shadow coming in
Dirty sheets pulled to your chin
Well maybe now we can be kin
But not likely
And it's draining
And it's draining
We're evading
And it's draining
You asked me before
You asked me to consider all the waiting
We've been here before
We've been here the delivery is no good
We're leaving lord
A leaving that's where we start repeating
Don't ask anymore
Don't ask me the delivery is no good
And it's draining
And it's draining
We're evading
And it's draining
And it's draining
And it's draining.
Been waiting out here for a while
At least so we could be the end
But not likely
And it's draining
Dirty sheets pulled to your chin
Well maybe now we can be kin
But not likely
And it's draining
We're evading
And it's draining
You asked me to consider all the waiting
We've been here before
We've been here the delivery is no good
A leaving that's where we start repeating
Don't ask me the delivery is no good
And it's draining
We're evading
And it's draining
And it's draining.

This has to be my favorite track from the new LP. It's just so mellow and serious. There's something about it that gives off the sense that isolation is about to dawn. Or, maybe that's just what I get from it.
But, I feel that the lyrics are based around a relationship(friendship, intimacy or even work relationship) that is becoming way too taxing. It's "draining" the life and reason out of the whole thing. Yet, for some reason, they aren't able to cut ties and move on from the situation. Sort of like a dying cycle that they can't escape from.
I seriously love this track. There's something timeless and very mature about this cut.
Wow... I have to say, I've been reviewing this album in order of the songs on the cd because it's NEW and I've been looking forward to Swoon being released and so far I haven't seen a song on the album that really catches my breath like this one.

I agree a lot with what Cabres says and Cabres captures all of the symbols and ideas of a relationship and maturity and what time does to love in his post. I just wanted to add (because I have been reviewing this album from beginning to end) that this band plays...

I just wanted to add (because I have been reviewing this album from beginning to end) that this band plays shoegaze/dreampop which means their songs make you feel like you're IN A DREAM!!
so, turn up the music, lay back and relax...
cheers to silversun pickups for such a mature, evolved sound that I had never expected...
Actually, the lyrics are kinda wrong, here are the ones posted on the Silversun Pickups website, literally copied and pasted.
you ask me to be stone again been wading out here for awhile at least the weight could be the end but not likely and it's draining and it's draining you see my shadow coming in dirty sheets pulled to your chin maybe we can now begin but not likely and it's draining and it's draining we're evading and it's draining you've asked me before
you've asked me to consider operating
we've been here before we've been here the delivery's no good we'll leave it alone we'll leave it that's when we start repeating don't ask anymore don't ask me the delivery's no good and it's draining and it's draining we're evading and it's draining and its draining and it's draining
Anyways, I really like this song. The guitar in the beginning is really gorgeous, I definately feel that the song is about a couple that's struggling. They both love each other, but the relationship is putting too much strain on both of the people, so even though they feel something, they're not happy together. That's just my opinion, though.
Not sure about the interpretation, but I definitely prefer these lyrics - "We'll leave it alone, We'll leave it that's when we start repeating" - makes quite a bit more sense than "We're leaving lord, A leaving that's where we start repeating."

Seems straightforward enough! A couple that knows that things between them aren't working out, yet neither of them have the balls to break it up. Every time they try, they fall short and say something like "lets keep trying." Over time this becomes more and more "Draining"
On a side note, that part at around 3:25 legit gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it...something is very deep about it...idk, maybe that's just me, but it seems to capture the theme of the whole song, despair and sadness
I totally agree. It's so soothing at first glance and the lyrics are so serious and intense. Silversun Pickups are fantastic.
To mean the song is About a relationship that she wants and he just wants sex basically. He's the shadow / she's in the bed with sheets pulled to her chin / SHE wants to be kin / but it's not likely to happen tonight. Saying he won't make her his "main girl" or whatever and so she's waiting for him and it's "draIning." so basically she's waiting on him to pick her...that's what I get from it anyway.
Beautiful song though!
anyone else think the opening guitar riff sounds like coheed and cambria?
I kind of get the feeling that this is about a couple who is trying to conceive, and can't get pregnant.
Bloody hell!
This has been one of my favourite songs for ages and I have only just realised what it is about. Traumatizing!
It's about HIV/Aids taking over!
I feel this song is about a couple who’s relationship is on the verge of losing control and they are trying to find ways to avoid it
