You Can't Hurt Me Now Lyrics
Oh, I know everyone knows the trouble I have seen.
That's the thing about trouble you can love,
Everyone has the eyes and ears to be where I have been.
You can have that heaven here and not wait for up above.
The more I feel myself,
the more alone I am.
Though you can't hurt me now,
I still fear God's plan/I still feel love's plan.
I know everyone has the happiness I have.
That's the thing about happiness you can hold.
Everyone has had the sense of my own belly laugh.
That's the heaven here at hand that does not grow old.
The more I feel myself,
the more you're close to me.
Though you can't hurt me now,
I still fear destiny.
It don't have to be known someday.
Let's do it now and not let someday
get in the way.
That's the thing about trouble you can love,
Everyone has the eyes and ears to be where I have been.
You can have that heaven here and not wait for up above.
the more alone I am.
Though you can't hurt me now,
I still fear God's plan/I still feel love's plan.
That's the thing about happiness you can hold.
Everyone has had the sense of my own belly laugh.
That's the heaven here at hand that does not grow old.
the more you're close to me.
Though you can't hurt me now,
I still fear destiny.
Let's do it now and not let someday
get in the way.

'I still feel love's plan' should be 'I still fear God's plan' and 'I still feel distant' should be 'I still fear destiny'
Love the song! The sentence 'The more I feel myself, the more alone I am' is brilliant!
rophi is definitely right on. I think there are a few other errors also. I would say lines 2 and 3 are grouped wrong and misinterpreted, they should be:
That's the thing about trouble you can love. Everyone has the eyes the ears to be where I have been.
line 10 should be
Everyone has had the sense of my own belly laugh.
and I also think line 11 should be "That's the heaven here at hand that does not grow old."
Anyway, great song.
I'd say this is about two big Eastern spiritual themes: 1) Being alive and human is miraculous and wonderful, and all of us share the same basic nature (with all sentient beings) as subjective awarenesses; and realizing that is liberating and 2) All things seem to be impermanent and basically out of our control; and knowing that is unsettling. The last verse is an exhortation to know and reconcile these truths right here and now and be liberated by them rather than letting fear and loathing posses us.
Indeed.
hmm. this is what's written in the cd booklet:
i know everyone knows the trouble i have seen that's the thing about trouble you can love everyone has the eyes and ears to be where i have been you can have that heaven here and not wait for up above
the more i feel myself the more alone i am the more i'm without you the less i am a man
i know everyone has the happiness i have that's the thing about happiness you can hold everyone's had the sense of my own belly laugh that's the heaven here at hand that does not grow old
it don't have to be known someday let's know now and not let someday get in the way
