Who'll ride this dying carousel?
Four rusting horses strangled by their own rope
What children love a singing wheel
Now that their tight hearts it broke
That their tight hearts it broke

Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead
Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead

I can see the coffin shining through my tinted window
Must've missed the sign that said it was a fire sale
I can see the coffin shining through my tinted window
Must've missed the sign that said it was a fire sale

Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead
Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead

You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
Useless in Hell

I can see the coffin shining through my tinted window
Must've missed the sign that said it was a fire sale
I can see the coffin shining through my tinted window
Must've missed the sign that said it was a fire sale

Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead
Everyone will come, everyone will come to my funeral
To make sure that I stay dead

You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
You can't take this from me
(forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell)
Useless in Hell

Who'll ride this dying carousel?
Four rusted horses strangled by their own rope
What children love a singing wheel
Now that their tight hearts it broke
That their tight hearts it broke

    Actually, it goes:

"We'll ride this dying carousel Four rusting horses strangled by their own rope What children love are singing "We all know that their tied hearts had broke That their tied hearts had broke"

    Fix it.

When i see the lyrics to this song, i feel like he's saying the Antichrist is, in a way, dying, and all the people who hated him will "make sure that i stay dead". and then he says "you can't take this from me (forbidden in heaven and useless in hell)" which could mean that no one can take the Antichrist figure out of him, and no one really needs an Antichrist in hell, and it's not allowed in heaven. i wonder if this is a way of wondering what will happen once the Antichrist is gone, and if anyone will continue shocking people like he did.

thats just my two cents. even if i'm way off, i still think this is a great song

    My Interpretation

I think that in this (great) song, Marilyn Manson is starting to think that whatever he does, the world will stay the same and continue being stupid. The parts of the song that made me think of it is when he says "forbidden in Heaven and useless in Hell", like if he said that he failed in his "mission" to change the world, but he still tried, so he can't go to heaven, and since he failed, he is useless in hell. There is also the part with the carousel, where he says the world will keep turning and stay the same, and that he hopes that in the next generation, there will be someone to take his place. He referts himself as the antichrist (as he says once in his book), and he thinks that the victorious religions and medias will come to his funerals to contemplate their "good" work and make sure he won't reborn.

I read an interview where he said this song was about his band, which could make sense seeing as there are 4 'core' members now

i'm thinking maybe the part goes like this:

" what children love is singing. we'll now that their die-hards have broke. that the tied hearts have broke. "

i'm not sure. something doesn't seem right.

I think I fixed it right this time, it's more consistent with other lyrics I've seen.

It seems to me this song is aimed at those critics who hate him because they think he is Satanic. "Everyone will come to my funeral to make sure that i stay dead" Seems to me that that part of the song is basically saying that he wouldnt be surprised if those Bible-thumping Jesus-freaks come to his funeral to make sure that he really is gone and wont bother them again.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
